When you get off the bus at Woodstock, one of the visuals you see right away is East Village icon, Jim Powers' mosaic planters. You will also familiar faces from the neighborhood and even a gallery name referencing the East Village...go figure.
I have never smoked pot or experimented with any drug in my life but I love the art from the 1960's which clearly was influenced by experimentation of all kinds and the poster art just rocks. I know the '60's is glamourized now looking back and it was not glamourous at all but the creativity that came out of that era and the passion is enviable and inspiring.
Before 9-11, I was making "techno-peace" disks...painting computer disks with really thick paint and I would write on the back "place in your spiritual disk drive". Post 9-11, my mind went back to the other part of the '60's that Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper where greatly influenced by and they made a fortune on their creative interpretation and expression there of.
I made this painting of a motorcycle and I have to laugh because Quentin Tarentino is now doing his recycling genres and spitting them out Tarentino style and he is has returned to this 60's genre.
The '60's is an era that is constantly being recycled...
