Tompkins, magical hat to stay cool, characters and compassion
Lenape Tribe, my dear friend, I consider, an elder of the park that watches over all that goes on is wearing a magical hat to stay cool recycled from a NYC garbage can....we are both laughing. He is such a sweet soul and when not in Tompkins he is tribal dancing!!!

Marlene aka Hotdog came up and gave me a wet kiss on cheek. When not drunk she is exceptionally sweet. I just heard a guy came over to her at some point recently and hit her in the back-- which is heartbreaking. She is short, African American, right now sporting a mohawk, I think she is a survivor of abuse and I just found out she speaks Spanish as well. She has a simple sweet quality about her and she really needs care but here she is happy among people that know her well and for years. There is a lot of compassion for her.
My 2 poems about Tompkins...Just taking in the mosaic of people and I saw a beautiful young woman wipe off a kiss but the way she did it, it was clear she really liked the adorable young man.
I didn't see Karl and one of the chronically homeless guys asked me if I knew where Karl was. Karl has not been seen for two days. Maybe the police arrested him or someone called EMS and he is detoxing yet again. I hope he is okay.
I love my neighborhood...the the diverse community including magical bohemians (my favorites) and even for most part the 9th Precinct, seem to absorb a lot of the characters, absorbing characters, the good and bad, some who can be extremely trying at times when under the influence of drugs or booze or the combination there of...it isn't easy but there is compassion...mega amounts of compassion...there is a lot of tolerance although gentrification I renamed supersification is rife and it seems developers including NYU and all the univerisities that have mega dorms here in the East Village (Cooper Union, The New School, SVA, NY Law) landlords who need a mansion happily evicted our community memberst; the vibe is they would prefer everyone leave who is not rich and lives for shopping in mega retail stores or has personal shoppers do it for them to leave.
I just love my neighborhood and the community, most especially the characters even though the EastVillage, Lower East Side and Bowery look more and more like a bad xerox of mid-town.
+ I really feel very bad for the homeless -- I am sweating and it is very uncomfy and what ever their struggles being trapped in vicious cycles -- it has got to be extra bad for them.

Homelessness is awful--these street/park people are cool--it is very unfortunate this country does not really care enough except for the almighty dollar which ain't worth much. It ain't worth a continental

If you see me around please say hi. Sometimes I look grumpy or sad but don't let that deter you -- I perk up pretty quickly!
