City section of The New York Times has a piece today "East Village Bohemia last bow"
Dear loyal readers: I didn't see Rent. All the movies and tv shows filmed here actually hurt the neighborhood and still do in many ways including fueling the fire of misconceptions about living here so NYU with the deepest pockets and most powerful connections doesn't even have to abuse eminent domain to move us all out so college kids can say they live here! The Economakis have decided that want our beloved community members out, it seems as if we are an inconvenient existence and speak inconvenient truths. I emailed this the nytimes...

East Village Bohemia last Bow?
how about over and out?
East Village Bohemia, the East Village has been mega dormed to death!
The creator of Rent died, turned away from emergency rooms that could have saved him.
I did call City Hall, I asked the mayor and city planner and they could have helped us save St. Ann's from 1847,
St. Ann's survived everything but NYU's need and greed to build yet another mega dorm,
I don't see the mayor or amanda burden showing up at any eviction protests and we have many including
whole earth bakery and kitchen and 47 East 3rd St because Alistar Economakis needs a mansion he demands all the tenants leave and there is no place they can afford in the East Village although he and his family could afford to live anywhere.
We have been turned away too...
I thought I was living in the East Village,
not a bad xerox of mid town or NYU-ville.
been mega dormed to death by NYU and than more mega dorms by The New School (on 12th) Cooper Union mega dorm on the Avenue of the mega dorms 3rd Avenue which turns in to the Bowery that looks more like Dubai each day with luxury hotels, Cooper Square looks like a supersized space ship landed and the Bowery Hotel looks like a prison next door to a homeless shelter.
and more mega dorms, New York Law mega dorm with balconies, and the School of Visual art too.
Evictions keep rising with the sky piercing condos and mirrored hotels that reflect a history destroyed and a community no longer welcome.
This artist just left for another Bohemia still alive near by,
you can understand me not telling you where.
