NYU, Cooper Union and Columbia University really need to be investigated by the Feds along with anyone aiding and abetting them in their wheelings and dealing involving real estate in so many ways it is shocking. The people of the community live their dirty dealings every day, though that have not been forced out by eminent domain abuse like the entire neighborhood of Manhattanville by Columbia except for a few hold outs duking it out in court.
NYU and Cooper Union don't even need to abuse eminent domain to get the job done and again the only thing the presidents of these Universities have not done is join Mike Bloomberg and socialite mega millionaire city planner Amanda Burden in shipping us all out in NYU buses and trolleys.
Their abuses are so many, so complicated and shady, Gordon Gekko is teaching a class at Stern Business School in conjunction with Cooper Union on how to use your not for profit status as a tax shelter and demolish a neighborhood without going to jail and making big profits! The course includes the need for high priced attorneys to beat down community concerns and public relations staff to sell the students and the press on how wonderful their misdeeds are and that lie the community just loves what they do.
The air sale over Saint Ann's at 120 East 12th Street by the USPS to NYU was illegal because the USPS did not notify the State of New York as legally required by just like blocking fire hydrants and laughingly saying, hey, let the NYPD ticket and tow us, the USPS is confident they are above the law. Since the USPS has lost aprox 14 billion dollars in the last three years, has customer service that makes the Mafia look warm and friendly doing an illegal air sale that might be harmful and destructive to the community to NYU is no biggie.
If you and I did this we would be in jail. It took years to catch Bernie Maddoff because just like NYU and the USPS -- it just appears certain institutions are above the law.
Ditto: For Cooper Union, in my opinoin what they have done sure feels criminal. Just use your eyes. They are in process of tearing down the little yellow science building and supersizing to match their mega dorm across the street and the mirrored building diagonally across the street where Cooper Union owns the land and leases it. Cooper Union intends on supersizing yet again and leasing yet again which has nothing to do with higher ed but higher greed.
I believe the subway stations there are so dilapidated that Coopers mega builds by them are further endangering our community. When Cooper U. tried their illict moves with Guiliani's city planner, I am told he said NO, THIS IS A SHELL GAME!
Amanda socialite mega millionaire city planner deserves handcuff bracelets for aiding and abetting these real estate magnates in their destructive, dangerous builds that displace our community members and make the area look like a bad xerox of mid-town turning in to a bad xerox of Dubai.
