Joe Berliner talking about Crude which is opening here in NYC at IFC
I wanted to attend this talk tonight because on the smallest level using imovie, my macbook and iphone w/video capacity I am making "movies" mini-documentaries as they unfold in the streets of NYC and posting sometimes live in the moment on YouTube.
The damage Texaco now owned by Chevron did in Ecuador and also in Africa just to name to countries is devastating. The clips from the film are deeply moving and will make you cry including a man telling you how he lost two sons never venturing out of baby hood. The toxic and destructive activities have hurt the people and all aspects of nature.
One young man that worked for Texaco as a boy remembers the humilation and bad treatment as he witnessed their destructive deeds and with the help of the Catholic Church he got the support he needed and worked hard for a law degree that would radically help his community and he is one of the moving true life heroes of this film.
Joe Berliner made Metalica the documentary which I have seen and he did a good job. I haven't seen his earlier films where he points out his unlimited access which he says now he wouldn't have because of the media's reach. Here had again, he has unlimited access and it includes the support of Sting and his wife Trudie.
I told Joe Berliner that just dealing with corruption here in NYC, I have been threatened. People do not like being exposed. I received emails from someone telling me not to attend the Christine Quinn debate and because I did using my iphone live from the street I did post on to YouTube live as it happened, NYU and the Villager denying the press, handicap and many people including seniors access to the debate.
I asked him a question along this line as well as his editor; asked him questions on the color of the film which is rich and beautiful despite the heartbreaking sadness. Did he alter the color in any way and he said no. There is more to tell but I feel really sick, exhausted, and what I call Sept. 11 throat burn in the back of my throat. I have to run.
Just borrowed this computer to tell you all...
see this film if you can, turn out and see this film!
Note: The movie poster looks like a heartbreaking Vermeer portrait
