a posting from and NYU student
http://www.nyuinc.org
This was posted under comments on my blog....
Just some thoughts you have read before on my blog...?
1) Could you imagine is NYU had to pay real estate property on all the property NYU owns? This would also include amazing apt. and townhouses NYU uses to lure "talent" away from it's competitors like Columbia University.
2) Could we see a map of all the property NYU owns and leases from mid-town on done to South St. Seaport and than can we see the "big" map of all the property NYU "holds" here and globally?
3) Can we get this instituting of higher learning to understand the meaning of the word "No!". No more mega dorms! No more preying on our communities waiting for buildings to empty and apt. and that includes Stuy Town that was meant to be affordable housing, not NYU student housing and the kids graduate and find the connections to stay own. Lucky them. NYU's powerful connections being the No. 1 real estate magnate in NYC brings a lot of luck. We could not even get the press to cover the Stuy Town affordable housing rally....did not even make a blip in The New York Times but The New York eminent domain Times publishes all the public relations for New York University and every developer including a supposed activist developer from the East Village front page, oh and for Amanda Burden, mega millionaire socialite city planner too, front page.
The Villager also it feels to me is practically written by NYU and it makes sense that the community board listens like those beholden to the number real estate magnate even defending their bubble head rep.'s question "Oh Andrew, how come you single out NYU, we are not the only not for profit org., blah, blah blah....? So I answered her question although my name is not Andrew. I answered with the same words when and NYU rep no longer with the company, oops, I mean NYU asked me to stop disparaging NYU is the press. "NYU is the only not for profit org that has built the most mega dorms in the East Village!" I actually asked the gang of NYU reps that meet with me so long ago and they admitted they have the most so I asked them why would I stop talking about that?
4) Can the state and city charge NYU for using the name New York? I am joking but truly, we are pushed out of our neighborhoods and NYU doesn't even have to abuse eminent domain to get the job done. Let us face it the country, city and state have major budgetary problems and it seems every solution falls on the middle classes because for instance Mike doesn't want the millionaires to respond by tax hikes by leaving but hey the middle class -- that is fine...again why I am glad the congestion pricing failed -- I want to fight pollution -- I just don't want another way that makes it impossible for middle income, poor and small businesses not to be able to drive in here and that also includes why to many tickets for parking violations for small businesses and people just trying to have a life and guess what
NYU uses Broadway and Lafayette Street as their parking lot when they have plenty of private property to park on and it would best to get rid of as many buses and trolleys as possible as park of decongesting the traffic here. The sidewalks resemble Time Square too which is hell if your are older and or handicapped.
5) Can NYU stop using the historic Washington Square Arch as their logo? NYU tears down our historic buildings and destroyed the beauty of the park with their hideous buildings like Bobst Library and the student center so NYU should be forbidden to use the historic arch as their logo and instead it should be the NYU Pallidium dorm or St. Ann's NYU mega dorm with a dollar bill so they can keep President George Washington on their new logo but convey their true values.
6) Can we get a list of each developer and how much money they made making a mega dorm for NYU? Include NY Law's mega dorm as well, the New School, Cooper Union and SVA.
How much does a man make making a mega dorm for these not for profit universities?
7) Is it true, the rumors that after John Sexton retires, Mike Bloomberg or Amanda Burden will take his position over as President? Or Mike will be president of NYU and NYU will create a new NYU city planner position for Amanda the socialite because they do own most of NYC!
I also read that John Sexton will take over as community board chair for David McWater, the East Village bar czar, nickname because he owns so many bars, and John Sexton will run our the community since he has so much experience destroying it and remaking the East Village into NYU-Ville.
8) People tell me John Sexton has lost his way -- forgotten hiimself... like the President of Columbia University and they are each fiercely competing even using prime NYC real estate as part of the competition.
NYU has mega dormed the East Village to death. I don't consider John Sexton Darth Vader but he has "forgotten" I am told. He has very powerful friends....NYU has very powerful friends and the deepest pockets.
9) The only thing the mayor, socialite mega millionaire city planner and John Sexton have not done is provide trains, NYU buses and trolleys to move us out for NYU's unending need to expand.
Thanks to the student posting the link. NYU students that have meet with me to interview me were very nice. Cooper Union students tell me NYU is the dark force not "Saint" Cooper but I disagree. Cooper is not as bad as NYU yet just because they are not as rich and powerful but the students treated me very badly so in terms of personal contact I do prefer NYU and do believe yes their are x amount that do support us and do care but not enough to make a dent in getting NYU to do something. We also need more students showing up at rallies and we need them to help by getting us community outreach resource centers which I discussed with a witness from Andrew Berman with Alicia Hurley and I told the mayor, Mike Bloomberg on the radio. I will post the link.
10) Link to hear me confront mayor Bloomberg and I ask for community outreach resource centers....

11) What would be the taxes NYU would have to pay each year if they did have to pay taxes like a regular business?
Would it be enough to feed and house every homeless person in New York or the entire country. Would it be enough to give the entire NYPD a raise? Would it be enough to improve our public schools and after school programs?
