the villager not a "village" er anymore
The Villager really does not represent the Village "East and West" but special interests including NYU...The Villager continues becoming "one" with the East Village's very own Evil Empire NYU and just look at who they get to pat them on the back with a two page spread but John Sexton who really could run our community board! It seems like NYU runs the villager. Take a good look at that page. That fact that the villager (not anymore) would highlight a photo of John Sexton praising "The Villager" speaks volume along with many others highlighted with the exception of Clayton Patterson who was and is powerful documenting the neighborhood's struggle and gritty characters so much so I think he must have inspired the visual imagery of the film "Blade Runner"!
I am no longer taking a look at The Villager any more. I stopped for a while after they deleted me, the most dynamic speaker at the rally for Whole Earth Bakery and Kitchen and if you want to figure out why again look to the photo spread of the villager's pic for people they get to pat them on the back. In cutting me out of the rally they also caught out Filomena Silvestri who had just died at 94 years old and she died knowing we fought for her and we won a small victory... an extension rather than having Whole Earth and Bakery thrown out on the street. I thanked the community for all their work and Filomena Silvestri died know, you the community fought for her and the villager deleted me because the reporter supposedly stated I didn't say anything different than anyone else. I was the only one who mentioned Filomena Silvestri and thanked the community, pointed out they made the difference. Filomena created the business we where there rallying for and The Villager never mentioned her in the article. I had to hound the editor to do an obit honoring her. I also mentioned the community outreach resource centers in every mega dorm we should have here in the East Village to help the community and small business.
There is a photo of Mike Rosen that lives in the Christa Dora, http://www.thevillager.com/villager_119/onavebtryingto.html here is the article from the villager about the Crista Dora and I have a link posted to The Villager about an article asking if the Christa Dora owes the community a community facility and how ironic because Mike Rosen co-owns a lot of buildings including The Red Square (looks like an NYU dorm) and there is a Lenin sculpture on it which he would never put on the roof or deck duplex or triplex he owns in the Krista Dora and he is happy to not ask the community how they feel about the Lenin Sculpture meaning many do not like it.
If John Sexton becomes community board 3 chair let us ask Susan Stetzer if it is a conflicted of interest. Yes there is a picture of Susan Stetzer as well.
The community board should be a democratic process and we need to know who these people are that represent our community and the community must know when the meetings are and that they are welcome to come, listen and to speak up. There also has to be accountability like 311 meaning the community board must show they addressed the issues brought to them and or refer them and it must be listed.
There is a comment section here so feel free to comment.
I love Jefferson Siegel photos and Clayton Patterson's too. There are some talented writers and I wish them the best of luck or making it in to a regular gig in The New York Times although the times has disappointed me as well not even covering The Stuy Town affording housing rally and it should have been front page.
I am done with reading The Villager. Could you imagine a free society where you weren't allowed to express dissenting opinions? I think of Stepford Wives adding in the sexist element of women should be seen and not heard unless they "agree" with the men in power that is.
