atboyslimisgod has made a comment on Cooper Union I feel is endangering community, Cooper like NYU greedy real estate magnate: Despite my spoiled and greedy tendencies as a cooper union student, i have too agree with this video. The mega studio building is clearly a excessive and greedy use of space for the cooper union art program. There is no rationalization for tearing down the vacant yellow building when funding could easily be obtained by greatly downsizing or eliminatiion the art portion of the cooper union. Gee whiz -- at least your president admits Cooper Union is a real estate magnate. Duh, it wasn't a vacant building until Cooper Union emptied it out. Even Rudy's city planner said no to this corrupt wheeling and dealing. I am told he said no, this is a shell game.
Thanks again for underscoring my point about art students that support the tear down and destruction of the community. Art students were anti-establishment but now they are about greed and destruction...especially of the East Village and Peter Cooper has to be turning over in his grave.
Oh gee, he came back so say some more...he writes:
The absbestos and inevitable colapse of the building due to the subway tunnel located a mere 150 feet from the closest corner of the building make it an ideal location for the humanities department. Furthermore the watermain could soak the relocated library there. The fact that Thom Mayne, a non cooper graduate was chosen to build the mega studio building proves that cooper artists and architects dont contribute to the community by producing enviromentally friendly buildings.
Thanks again Cooper Union art student that calls himself atboyslimisgod for sharing -- you make Cooper Union proud!!!!! Peter Cooper is turning over in his grave!!!!!!!
Gee cooper union student -- duh, do ya think your school could build a building that respected the zoning and actually was devoted to education rather than zone busting, weighing heavy on our old dilapidated infrastructures and gee whiz stop using terms like higher education and community facility to bust through our zoning and the building have nothing to do with education but purely about real estate greed. Duh, Cooper Union busts through zoning and than land leases the property like the sky piercing mirrored building on what was a parking lot or the little yellow building you refer to that will be sky piercing, busts through zoning and Cooper Union is going to lease for 99 years.
Gee whiz you willfully obtuse Cooper Union student...duh, ya think the community welcomes all these zone busting hideous ugly buildings? And gee whiz we know Cooper Union says the two water main breaks with in one block of your hideous ugly studio building had nothing to do with all your heavy construction work!!! Uh, huh!!!!!
Thanks Cooper Union for showing the ugly insensitivity that Cooper Union is all about. At least some NYU students have told me they do not approve of what NYU has done.
I think this guy is stupid just like the NYU students that desperately want to show they just don't care about how their greedy corrupt schools crush our communities. At least I got to stand with some Columbia University students at a protest of Columbia U. abuse of eminent domain and they had the guts, humanity and caring to say "Not in our name!"
Bravo to Norman Siegel, famed Civil Rights lawyer that represented Nick Sprayregan and won! I voted for king Mike Bloomberg twice not understanding he was pushing a reckless tsunami of community crushing development city wide and often what I believe was the abuse of eminent domain came in to play. I even renamed the "old" Grey Lady The New York eminent domain Times. People pro-deveopment do not mind as long as they are not the ones forced to move. I think NYU is the no. 1 real estate magnate and like Columbia University and now even Cooper Union real estate wheelings and dealing are their no. 1 priority and "higher ed" is a tax shelter for land grabs including busting through zoning and in Cooper Unions cases supersizing and leasing land which has nothing to do with higher ed. The Bloomberg administration and city council favored developers over the people and Nov. 3, we the people of New York City sent a powerful message even with Mike Bloomberg gross obscene spending and I know City Council got the message even if king Mike and his socialite mega millionaire city planner, Amanda the people's Burden did not. We are not going to take it anymore. Bravo to Nick Sprayregan and Norman Siegel who also represented me when Google removed all 334 YouTubes of mine and the majority were about Mike Bloomberg. Google apologized and my YouTubes, my history was restored including this series on Columbia University abusing eminent domain. Here I am at a protest at Columbia University interviewing and video taping the protest. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8C438F43D7335594 Without Norman Siegel and other dynamic souls contacting YouTube Google on my behalf you would not be able to watch people outraged and protesting Columbia University's abuse of eminent domain. Columbia U. students spoke up and said "Not in our name!". NYU were I lived for the last 25 years does not even have to abuse eminent domain to get the job done. When Mike Bloomberg says "Progress" it means get your moving van.
