Jim Power and Jesse on a rainy day clearly in need of help
I keep getting email via YouTube praising what I did for Jim Mosaic Man Power and Jesse Jane when Jim fell and broke his wrist and shoulder. Jim called me for help and I did by hiring a car and driving out, talking with the EMS workers, his landlord and taking Jesse Jane not the porn star but hero service dog to Jim over to Clayton Patterson and Elsa Reynsa's. Jim had than called me from the hospital in Brooklyn and asked me to get a car to pick him and take him to the VA hospital. That took a very long time and was a fiasco because Jim gave me the wrong street name. Than Jim had a fellow patient call me and ask me to put money on Jim's phone. I did. I put $50 dollars on his phone and he would call me one minute and tell me I was a hero and the next demonize me and gee I was paying for that!
Clayton and Elsa were his heroes and they have been so for a very long time. Clayton and Elsa are rare New Yorkers that actually would take Jim and Jesse Jane in. Not many people take a homeless man and his dog in. I do know George Bliss of Hub Station took in a homeless man Ben who lived with him and his girlfriend in a commune George had across from my windows so many years ago on 12th Street. I was in love with George's dog Orvis! Orvis looks like Jesse but mostly he was all black with longer hair.
Jim's phone call became abusive and I told him to stop calling me. His lawyer did call me asking me to help Jim sue the landlord. I told the lawyer I made YouTubes as they were happening that would give him the dates Jim needed but I told the lawyer the landlord was an exceptionally kind man who helped me to help Jim who was screaming in pain. The landlord was extremely kind to Jim and also noted what an exceptional dog Jesse is. My Mom calls Jesse the "golden dog". Note: Jim's landlord was in the process of evicting Jim's roommate but Jim was in dire straits so he gave Jim a month longer to stay.
Jim is so talented and prolific so why is he still on the street? Where is Jim's family? After the way Jim treated me, Clayton and Elsa, I think I know the answer and understand the answer.
I had read "The Soloist". I won't see the movie, too Hollywood, but it tells the story of Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, Jr. I write about Jim and make YouTubes about him which I believe have inspired others to interview him, hire him and take an interest in him. I do not have the resources Steve Lopez had writing for The Los Angeles Times. He had so many people and organizations reach out to help me and it just doesn't seem to happen here. Yes, people write about him and photograph him but where is the help? Clayton arranged for an activist MD to help Jim and I called the VA hospital making it clear I was not a family member but he needs help.
I am proud that my YouTube series on Giuseppie Logan got world wide attention and instead of being robbed I was acknowledged in a stirring piece by the publisher of Signal to Noise, Pete Gershon's "Signal to Noise", "Coming out of the shadow" and now Giuseppie (in the 60's on record covers spelled Giuseppi) I am told will have his original albums from the '60's re-released next year. (Fingers crossed.)
Steve Lopez contacted Nathaniel's sister and lawyers and when he brokered the movie deal he set up a trust that would fund a foundation to help artists http://www.naayers.org/
When I saw Jesse in the rain earlier today I felt badly for her because she clearly suffers through the rough times and she truly is his spiritual seeing eye dog. I love Jesse Jane the golden dog.
If only Steve Lopez had been visiting NYC and wrote a series of pieces on Jim's art maybe there would be a book, film and foundation for him and to help other artists.
Note: When Jim was calling me and yelling at me, I was feverishly working on the portrait of Mike Bloomberg....seems ironic. See my other postings on Jim -- go to the blogger search engine and type his name.
