Two Weeks Left to Strengthen Rent Laws With No Deal in the Works Are You FED UP? Protest at Gov. Cuomo's NYC Office Tenants & Elected Officials Plan Civil Disobedience Action Thursday, June 9, 2011 - 12:00 NOON 633 3rd Ave @ 41st St Are you outraged that Governor Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers are again running out the clock on rent-regulation laws? With fewer than two weeks left before they expire, there no deal, and almost no mention of this issue from the Governor, in the media, or on the streets. Cuomo's property-tax cap for rent-laws deal announced last week seems to have gotten tenants nothing; Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos came away saying that there was no agreement to do anything but renew the laws in their current form - leaving vacancy decontrol intact to continue dismantling the system. That's exactly what Skelos's position was before, and what landlords have been calling for. We must end deregulation and protect all tenants! Please come to the protest and help us get the word out! NOTE: If you're interested in joining tenants and lawmakers in the civil disobedience action, please contact mario@metcouncil.net |
