Yetta Kurland Hospital Where St. Vincent's Was + John Liu power of the audit
Dear Neighbor,
First, I wanted to let you know that the Community Forum sponsored by the Coalition for a New Village Hospital on the status of our fight for a new hospital at the former site of St. Vincent’s that was initially scheduled for January 20th has been changed. The new date is February 16th at 6:30pm at the Hudson Guild located on 9th Avenue and 17th Street. Please update your calendar and spread the news.
Next, I am delighted to inform you of the most recent victory in the fight to restore a hospital at the former site of St. Vincent’s. Community Board 6 unanimously voted last night to pass a resolution in solidarity with the resolution passed at Community Board 2 to ‘lock’ the land use of the hospital for community uses only and to oppose changing the land use to allow residential development to replace the hospital. This is now the 3rd Board to pass such a resolution and we want to thank our friends at Community Board 6!
Finally, in the interim please see the invitation forwarded to me by New York City Comptroller John C. Liu regarding a Town Hall Meeting entitled ‘The Power of An Audit’ at which Comptroller Liu will discuss the when where and how of audits and even allow people to suggest audits that should be done on entities in the City of New York which you might be very interested in attending. This meeting is on Monday January 24th at 6pm at 411 Pearl Street. As you know, since the wrongful closing of St. Vincent’s which violated New York State Public Health Law and raised serious questions about the financial irregularities of the hospital there has not been a single investigation or hearing on a City, State or Federal level. The Comptroller has been a fierce advocate for New Yorkers and this may be an opportunity for us.
Hope to see you there.
