Email from Suzannah B. Troy to Commissioner Kelly re: Michael Rawson's treatment of Veteran's Mercer Hotel Soho
Commish Kelly: I just listened to Unbroken on audio. Try not to read books these days, my eyes ache. This book made my heart ache...to listen to details of how our US troops and our Allies were brutally tortured and that is an understatement, after starvation and the most heinous viscous tortures decapitations, mass murders, record amount of US soldiers murdered as prisoners can't put in to words my feelings. I am glad I stood up for the Veterans being ticketed over inches and any petty rule broken. Yesterday luxury cars parked no tickets in front of The Mercer Hotel. Rawson never served he just demands service. The book was given to me because it is a miraculous story of resilience, redemption and forgiveness. It meant so much a WW2 Vet stood with us when we protest Rawson's treatment of Vet. Vendors. Viet Nam Vet Vendors prevented Time Sq Bombing alerting NYPD.

To my blog readers: Michael Rawson has ceased walking out of the exit on Prince Street and performing his walk where he would verbally harass Afghanistan, Viet Nam and Korean War Veterans, laughing and taunting them as he held his cel phone to his ear telling them he was calling the NYPD on them.

Another --Suzannah B. Troy Veteran re: Battery Park story -- This was a long time ago....please note, I got a letter from the Parks Dept. I was told that I and Korean War Veterans who had also written the Parks Dept. re: our concern they had planted trees around the Korean War Memorial that would obscure and defeat the meaning of the Memorial. The Korean War Memorial at Battery Park is a sun dial that marks the exact moment of the Peace treaty.
For me as an Artist the empty space the forms the soldiers body represents infinity - the loss of life and for me the love -- the feeling of love so I was so proud I spoke up and happy to find out Korean War Vets had to and the parks dept. removed the trees.
