I read an article on the capture of Tina Negron's murderer and in the article words that I had written about violence towards women, the words were like the words I had written on this blog almost quoted verbatim it seemed to me.

I was glad because I have lived it and endured it but I am alive. It was not any ex-boyfriends. My theory is what I was forced to endure was an attempt to silence me. Not the ultimate silencer which is death because here I am alive writing to you.

I was glad to read words I had written as if someone had read them directly from my writing here on this blog. The message has to get out. I read Tina Negron's poem and she was right on.

I had contacted as many people as possible about violence towards women and the need for change including writing a book review on Amazon.com for "Secrets Can Be Murder" by Jane Velez-Mitchell and I contacted her directly and emailed Commissioner Kelly. I went to the 9th Precinct's community meeting and spoke up about the fact that nobody should die the way Imette St. Guillen died. The commander of my precinct was respectful and he inspired me to write up ideas which I handed in and I felt the precinct community meeting was the only meeting where I was heard. When every where else I was shut down because they feared I wanted their jobs -- that I want to run for political office -- that I am too effective so they shut me down. I wrote many people and also starting emailing Nancy Grace who has an amazing resource list on her website. I also emailed Americas Most Wanted on several issues and thanked them for their fine work that lead to the capture of Tina Negron's murderer.

But through this blog it is clear my words are being read, even repeated although I am not credited and better my thoughts are repeated. I lived it and it was not any ex-boyfriends but it was clear to me there was an attempt to control me and most of all silence me --- very painful topic, very traumatic and it is close to home for me even though I am moving, close to home.

+Also note I will not mention the paper where I read this because they were part of the "silencers" fearful I was to effective reaching the community and erased me -- my speech which people still praise me for at the Whole Earth Bakery and Kitchen" rally where I praised the community -- I told them Filomena Silvestri died at 94 knowing we fought for her and we won a small victory -- an extension and she died knowing her business was not going to be thrown out on the street evicted! You made the difference and that is was makes us a Village and not NYU-ville!!!!! I demanded community outreach resource centers in every mega dorm here in the East Village with scholarships, with computers for people in need, with a table to ask for tutors, with listings of our small businesses but the little newspaper reporter told his editor this --I did not say ANYTHING DIFFERENT THAN ANYONE ELSE! I WAS THE MOST DYNAMIC SPEAKER AT THAT RALLY AND THEY ERASED ME AND FILMONENA, SHE WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THIS LITTLE NEWSPAPER'S REPORTING ALTHOUGH IT WAS HER BUSINESS AND THAT WAS BECAUSE I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO MENTION HERE AND THEY WANTED NO MENTION OF ME SO WE WERE BOTH ERASED. I confronted the editor and he sent me this.... She did not say anything different from anyone else but in fact I did. The little paper did an obit for Filomena "Vegan Earth Mom" that was because of me hounding the editor and the words "Vegan Earth Mom" were my words that I said use with my blessing. Filomena was a woman visionary, a woman business owner who should have been honored at the rally and she was by me and the loud response when I mentioned her but they wanted my voice silenced so they did not mention me although I spoke powerfully and they did not mention her because I was the only one who spoke of. The reporter I am told said to his editor, Who does she think she? Is she running for political office? The little paper much later ran a piece and included me with the mayor and picked the most unattractive picture of me on purpose but still people know the truth. Other blogs picked up the story. Thank goodness for blogs.

I am not running for political office but I know I make a difference helping people and I didn't need a job in city government to do so. I do want the community boards to have to document each person speaking up and return with this:

1) yes I addressed it - problem solved.
2) No, we did not resolve the issue at the community board level and it was submitted to 311 -- here is the number meaning WE NEED ACCOUNTABILITY. WE NEED TO KNOW WHO REPRESENTS US ON A COMMUNITY BOARD LEVEL because we were not even given the right to VOTE for them!

My theory is the attempt to silence me, shut me up, shut me down was in part sexism -- "She should know her place and they wanted to put me in my place. It happens all the time -- this sexist mentality -- women should know their place and they should shut up and if they refuse they have to deal with a hostile evironment and I am so glad at least one one sued and won big. We should not have to endure hostile environements and be trashed because we dare to speak up. We should be intimidated in our homes, in our workplaces -- we should not be silenced -- we should not be murdered.

It happens all the time and it is not just male on female but it seems mostly so.

I felt I was affective and there was this undercurrent that became no longer "under" with the intent to shut me up. My theory is the attempts to silence me is because I am outspoken and I speak up on many issues including against the number one real estate magnate in this city which is NYU and NYU has a lot of powerful connections and people that want to be close to them, depend on them. I had one NYU employee ask me to stop talking to the press and this person is now gone. I watched NYU build one mega dorm after another from my window and The New School mega dorm all from my window. St. Ann's was the final traumatic tear down I witnessed and NYU is no longer going to be my next door neighbor. I will no longer be situated between NYU and the USPS -- the building on the other side of my home for 20 years.

Yes, I agree Silence=Violence and their are all kinds of way people attempt to silence women who dare to speak up.
Anyone celebrating attempts at silencing us or the ultimate silence is someone --- take a good look at them...Why are they so happy to silence a powerful voice? Why so compelled to silence us? It seems to me like more women endure bouts of verbal harassment, threats, intimidation, being blamed by the abusers, and ultimately murdered by their abuser -- more die "death by murder" than by death by breast cancer.

Bernie Madoff and his wife are awful people and awful parents.  This is horrible news and he should not have killed himself and to do so with his child in the apt. was also wrong.  Very disturbing news but a lot goes on in Soho above the radar until dead bodies start showing up.

Maddoff family prayed at the alter of wealth.  They suckered people and had them buy in to their fake phony charade and all their wealth stolen or gotten perhaps even 

"not stolen" has done nothing for them.   Being so wealthy and above the law and scrutiny certainly did not help.  I read in Page 6 that when SEC investigators came to Madoff they ended up handing him resumes.  Too bad people are mesmerized by money or the illusion of it...the greed and corruption of it hidden like a toxic waste dump hidden in glittery jewels but all people including the authorities respond to is the glitter.

Anyone following my blog knows I have been reporting on the manager of The Mercer Hotel calling the NYPD on the Veteran and Vendor artists hoping to get them ticketed or arrested over any little infraction and yet the Mercer breaks the law using their "loading and unloading zone for the hotel" as private parking with valet service.  The doormen get tips and they also act like thugs -- just one example --  approaching me out on Prince St. and ordering me to stop filming him.  I have news for the rocket scientist...if he is at the door where he is suppose to be on Mercer St.  maybe I wouldn't be filming him but I have gotten a lot of disturbing reports of goings on including the Vets feeling like they are enduring at work place harassment by people that work at the hotel with one goal and that is to have them swept off the streets of Soho like trash.

Soho/W. Village was created by artists that did not have money.  Some still live there and have made money but are soulless wonders who married rich and used their rich spouse to get $ and than dumped them.  Need I say more?

Anyway I wrote Community Board 2 this morning at the crack of dawn - actually before dawn and noted I got a letter in response to my concern from the Manhattan Borough commissioner that the loading and unloading sign outside the Mercer was unaccounted for which translates in to stolen.   There is more to this story but I won't share anymore details.

There is more and I just expressed my anger at how the rich white people of Soho including CB2 use the NYPD to do their bidding and are above the law.   I also pointed out that any of them (the ruling class) could lose all their money as most recently experienced and I was referring to the Wall St. Implosion, Mortgage meltdown and Bernie Madoff.

How haunting to wake-up and later find out Madoff's son had killed himself and not far from from the symbol for me of arrogance and being above the law--  the Mercer Hotel for how they have called the NYPD over and over yet are confident the NYPD will never ticket them and their clients for parking in the loading and loading and let me say this "etc.".

I would also like to point out the arrogant rich ruling class is above the law and do what ever they want abusing alcohol, drugs, etc and are above the radar until there is a dead body as in the recent tragedy of this young swim suit designer.  There is more to this story than meets the eyes.  Her parents are in denial about one thing and that is what she put in her body.

Soho House is part of the elitist arrogant ruling class that even bends it's price for "youth" if you can believe it.  (Gee, I wonder why they do that?) 

You don't help the Charlie Sheens of this world by letting them live above the law.  It is amazing that Sheen is still alive and also that he and other celebrities like him have not killed someone including driving drunk or high like a (racist, anti-semitic) Mel Gibson to name just one of many.

I do understand Sylvie Cachay dating a bad guy because NYC has very, very few good guys and they are all or mostly married.   I understand her trying to fix a guy or seeing a ray of goodness in his darkened twisted soul....so many women do.  

Tina Negron was a beautiful soul who helped her handicapped mother.  She was murdered in the East Village in the Key Foods supermarket where she worked and she and a brave friend fought off her  machete knife wielding ex-boyfriend but Tina would not live.  Tina dated this guy and he was clearly mentally ill and beyond any kind of healing and breaking up with him like so many women meant a death sentence. 

To me Tina's life counts as much or even more because she lacks the wealth and privileges of Sylvie.  Tina had written a powerful poem and she did not have Sylvie's wealth upbringing so she is all ready forgotten.  Most of us me included can't begin to imagine the privileges, wealth and perks of Sylvie Cachay but in the long run they worked against her.

I do give the NYPD highest praise in these two cases and any cases where they catch the monsters who murder women and in this case I should say "alleged".

Now Sylvie joins Tina Negron and so many women in NYC that died death by a violent man...welcome to Misogynist NYC but Sylvie's death all exposes the wealthy elitist ruling class above the law, above the radar until someone ends up dead.

From all accounts I read she sounded like a beautiful person. I defended her on the nydailynews website. As usual it was blame the victim day. What would such a good person being doing with a bad person. I am sorry to break the news folks but they are not a lot of good guys out there and I am guessing she was a compassionate soul that preferred to see the good in people.   Look at statistics here in NY and world wide and I am guessing a lot more females die death by violence than from breast cancer but it just is not addressed like cancer is and globally it could be but for some reason (I have an idea why) celebrities don't have their chic fund raisers to say stop the violence and raise consciousness.   Could you imagine fund raisers on all local tv stations around the world with celebrities (sad to say we need them to get attention) raising awareness what are the warning signs, organizations that can help be support systems. etc. ?

Also the laws have to change because even if you can get the police involved it doesn't seem to stop the violence.  A piece of paper isn't going to protect you from someone obsessed.

It starts with words, verbal violence, intimidation, blame the victim and escalates and you don't have to be an intimate partner to be a victim. How does this happen?  There are red lights and they tend to be ignored and or rationalized away.  

I think of corruption. NYC's tolerance for corruption is higher than the city's skyscrapers, same for this treatment and believe me women can join in and participate. Just talking in general terms. I did lots of piece on this blog about Tina Negron.

This is a youtube from the NYPD on domestic violence and it is very good.  The problem is bigger than than the police and it is broader than domestic violence including violence towards females of any and all ages and it means changing consciousness world wide and changing laws as well.   I am glad the NYPD is now on youtube.

Domestic violence is a key issue because  of the other victims which can be children and extended family members witnessing on going verbal abuse, blaming of the victims etc but there are bigger pieces to this disturbing puzzle involving cultures and societies that seem to encourage it. I remember a long time ago being forced to listen to that heinous rap song that celebrated Ike beating Tina on the Path train.  I was stunned to hear a song on the radio by a rap artist berating the community for calling the police on him when he sold drugs.  I remember visiting a friend on Ludlow Street maybe 18? years ago and having to walk past the drug dealers in the hall way.  It seems drugs and violence towards women, violence period go hand and hand.  It is a bigger issues with female infants being murdered in some countries around the globe so it is a bigger global issue that needs to be addressed on many levels.

Think of Tina Negron every time I walk in to this supermarket where she spoke up with courage and they were her last words, murdered by a man supposedly that had feelings for her but ultimately wanted to control her. There are terrible men that will hurt you if you won't be their barbie doll. Tonight as the music was wrapping up I saw a hideous man I once asked for help when I was being harassed, it would be like asking the police for help and them harassing or hurting you worse and blaming you, but this man wasn't a policeman, clearly he wasn't the friend I thought he was but they opposite. I remember once he leaned over to kiss me and he smelled of booze and I was repulsed. No knight in shining armor.

NYC is a city where women, girls even babies die death by violence. We ask for help and we have to be careful -- the people we ask for help from could be as bad or worse.

For women in the East Village and NYC -- if you reach out to the NYPD and that is male and female officers you hope the will help you and not abuse their power the way the rape cops did.  Listening to their lawyer trying to rationalize kissing a drunk’s shoulder as alcohol counseling by the rape cop and demonizing the victim == blaming her show the lawyer as well as the rape cops don’t believe in Hell.

The legal system does little to nothing to protect girls and women.  What has a piece of paper -- restraining order done to stop would be murderers?  Very little to nothing.

Women are blamed for everything.  I read comments blaming Sarah Colt for her own death because she made a poor choice.  Well there are not a lot of good choices out there.   In this new gruesome  article from the NYDN the murderer has a friend that praises him and says he has  a child from a previous but as the investigation continues will more violence in the past be revealed besides last years altercation with some man?

It is pretty amazing in NYC and around the world that women are victims of violence from verbal abuse including cowardly anonymous attacks by cowardly (they seem very lonely to say the least on their many dysfunctions and short comings) people who would blame women for any and all violence from words to rape to murderer.   We have seem O.J. Simpson walk and people even cheer as he walked free after practically decapitating his two victims and a rapist just walked free here in NYC raping as a time out from robbing her but really sick hateful jurists decided she must have cooperated.

It sure feels like I was assaulted and for those interested in violence towards women which starts often with verbal attacks and escalates go to my search engine and type in "breast poems" and click on the link for the large breast print painting I did way back when.  Please note that attacks starting with verbal assaults can also be female on female for all the same twisted reasons from mental illness to jealousy*, etc.  but what ever gender, what ever there is a line people cross and it is no longer about freedom of speech and globally if you could tally it up it usual end with females targeted.   Remeber Tina Negron's last words...I have many posting on her death and her last words where about "control" and I think I mention control in my letter in the Financial Times.   It is a sick power trip and control is part the package.

I also have been published in The Financial Times with regard to Lucien Freud's painting of a nude older woman and my own art but in terms of what I would call geo-sexual inequality including economics to basic human rights.

Another letter that relates to this topic is a letter I had published in the Arts and Leisure Section on Women and Pornography and I have a special homage to Mae West but the bottom line is I talk about violence towards women.   These are old letters but it is clear there is so much acceptable violence on so many levels directed towards girls and women.

I have documented the "East Village verbal assault" which I believe was also in part because I am a woman.

Heartbreaking.   Young beautiful woman murdered in the East Village and by a sick individual living amongst us, surprise.   Not at all.   Also remember you don't have to have dated someone or even know them to be a victim of violence of any kind.

* Etc. covers a lot and I want to add -- violence of any kind can also be linked in my opinion to possible abuse of drugs, legal and illegal and alcohol or any combination there of.

I also believe there is more "drug abuse" involving prescription drugs and any combination stated above and not just because of higher population but because pharmaceutical companies are distributing them more than ever to kids on up and use tv and the media to "push them" or advertise them....

Laura Garza is not forgotten, her family cries out DO NOT LET SUSPECT GO! Good for NYDaily News for covering this story, we have to remember Laura

Please keep covering this story as much as possible to keep the pressure on to find her body and to put the murderer behind bars for life. Do not forget Jennifer Moore who was under age and Imette St. Guillen. To all females NYC, please be on your guard, I don't care if they are wearing a 1,000 dollar suit or a uniform, do not drink to much and go out with a friend, agree to see each other home safely. Do not leave your drinks unattended and be no your guard. No woman should die this way and the fact the murderer went to great lengths to hide Laura Garza makes me thinks she fought hard for her life. I am posting on my blog MisogynistNYC.
