NYPD officer Schatz came over to me in the past and told me wrong information re: the loading and unloading zone in front of the Mercer hotel and I documented the incident as well as made a report  because when he barked at me the wrong info that the Hotel can park there I happen to be leaving a message on Internal Affairs

P.O. Schatz came back today after his rush to make the end of the 20 minute protest using his sirens in his vehicle to get there -- we heard than at 12:18... We have him on video tape actually creating congestion on the side walk where for 18 minutes we film and than was more than 50 percent available and you will hear a stirring speech I made before the protest and even during the protest about the Veterans being handicapped and P.O. Schatz came back after I left and P.O. Schatz came back and he picked the oldest senior citizen Veteran who is handicapped and harassed him making him move his chair and Eric's legs don't work and he can't balance so he put his hand on P.O. Schatz's car and Schatz yelled at him to get his hand off of his car!  Another Vet walked over and explained Eric is handicapped and his legs don't work well.

I will be posting video of the speech and during the protest talking about these handicap Vets including Eric so how shocking that P.O. Schatz would behave this way.

REMINDER:  For the last decade and now the NYPD 1st Precinct has been overwhelmingly good, kind and respectful to the Veteran Vendors and the Vets and I are grateful and thankful to them and after all the too are Vets and or their parents and loved ones are Vets and they know about Service front line!

Capt. Winski was told this would be a 20 minute protest.  It is very possible the staff of the hotel have P.O. Schatz's telephone number and called him and based on the one previous unpleasant experience I had with this officer telling me wrong information he acts like he works for the Mercer Hotel and not the People of New York!

By the way....for once the Mercer Hotel was not breaking the laws with the loading and unloading sign and there was no car parked their so P.O. Schatz could have parked in front of the hotel and walked a block rather than park the way he did above.

Missed in the hoopla last week between Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s selection of Cathleen Black as his new schools chancellor and another successful Veteran’s Day parade was the announcement of Terrance Holliday as the new Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs (MOVA).

In making the announcement at his annual Veteran’s Day breakfast at Gracie Mansion, Mayor Bloomberg, like his left-field school chancellor pick, surprised everyone in attendance and immediately set off a discussion: Who is Terrance Holliday? Where did he come from? Does anybody know him?

However, what the media missed and what veterans didn’t get was how eerily similar Mayor Bloomberg’s selection of Mr. Holliday was to Ms. Black’s. With the exception of quietly posting the position in early August and including two of his own staff members, this search appears to have been carried out under the radar of the veteran’s community.

This leads to the inevitable question of Why? Why did the Mayor and his people feel that the process had to be just as secretive as his selection of Ms. Black as the new schools chancellor?

From conversations with people both inside and outside the veterans’ community, it was known as early as July that Commissioner Roger Newman was in the process of leaving the office. Later conversations revealed that a number of qualified people applied for the position – individuals who not only had the qualifications and drive to succeed but more importantly could have possibility changed the direction MOVA has been going for the past eight years.

However, like the Black appointment, there is little evidence that anyone was vetted or considered and no known candidates were called or brought in for an interview. So while some may argue that at least there was a public search, the truth is that the process was superficial at best.

As the media reported late last week, Mayor Bloomberg defended his “clandestine” selection process for school chancellor by saying he wanted to avoid a public spectacle. If true, then why would he do this with the Veterans Affairs position? As Sam Roberts of the New York Times reported on Veteran's Day, the number of military veterans living in New York City has decreased by one-third since 2000, with census figures showing that there are only 233,000 veterans as of last year.

Sadly, it appears that while the “buck” may stop with Mayor Bloomberg - who is ultimately responsible for his Commissioners – he did nothing more than rubber stamp this selection. Anyone involved with veterans advocacy in New York City knows who is running MOVA from City Hall and all one has to do is look at the press release regarding Mr. Holliday's appointment to see the first name Mayor Bloomberg thanked for the appointment search.

Therefore, it’s more likely the process was conducted stealthily because of City Hall’s awareness of the lack of leadership, conviction, direction and overall poor relationship MOVA currently has with New York City’s veterans’ community. My friend Luis Carlos Montalván and I wrote an article last year highlighting some of these major issues.

If the word “Reform” is considered an incremental process in which leaders build on the accomplishments of those who came before them, then what will Commissioner Holliday build on from Commissioner Newman? The majority of veterans agree that Commissioner Newman was not able to build upon anything left to him from former director (now Deputy Commissioner) Joynes because she left the position in worse shape than when she got it. Because of Ms. Joynes and the strong oversight City Hall has taken with the office, Mr. Newman did little to enhance the office or offer any meaningful help towards veterans.

So what then, should the veteran’s community make of Terrence Holliday as the new MOVA Commissioner?

When City Hall began talking to Mr. Holliday about the position is not known. Very few people knew of Holliday’s appointment until the morning of the breakfast. Interestingly, Mayor Bloomberg appointed Edna Wells-Handy, the widow of Michael Handy (the former Director of MOVA), as the Commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) just a week prior and coincidentally, both Mr. Handy and Mr. Holliday knew each other well from their former positions and both served in the Air Force.

Regardless, like Ms. Black, there will be no learning period for Mr. Holliday, particularly like the one Mr. Newman had in 2007. Also, like Ms. Black, Mr. Holliday is entering a hostile battlefield. People within education and those directly affected by it are the most outraged and so are veterans and their families struggling with the inadequacy of the Bloomberg administration on dealing with veteran issues.

The bottom line is that Commissioner Holliday will have a long road to travel and without much in the way of support. Already there are questions regarding his initial statement at Gracie Mansion. If his comments are any indication of the help veterans can expect to receive, it would seem that Mayor Bloomberg has told the veteran’s community that they should look to the new Mayor in 2013 for change. Thus, while education will be a legacy issue for Mayor Bloomberg, veteran’s affairs will not.

The United States has been at war for almost a decade and for almost as long veterans in New York City have watched the Mayor's left hand work in disharmony with the right. His message towards veterans and their families during the past nine years have been long on thanks but short on substance. Last year Mayor Bloomberg ran on the campaign slogan – “Progress. Not Politics.” A year into his third term and nine years into his legacy, veterans are still waiting for the “progress.”

There is so much dishonest dealing here where to begin...Let's start with the Cayman Island aspect -- like the 62 emails the NYPost ask Mike to turn over -- these tax free investments are subpoena proof and my questions are -- why do charity investments on via the Caymans unless you are hiding something an unwilling to pay taxes - so isn't Mike Bloomberg on the advice of Steve Rattner robbing tax payers here of money? Just like the money funneled to Haggerty - sub-zero trickle-down (an economic term I made up) to say the money is not finding it way to the people but in to a few people's pocket. It also stink of dishonesty, tax payer theft re: Caymans, lack of transparency. The fact deputy mayor Harris says she logs in 5 hours sounds like another big lie and I wish we could get Harris, Bloomberg and Rattner investigated on ethics charges and they don't the 5th like Rattner did to the SEC and Steve Rattner pleaded the 5th more times than Mike has been mayor. Like the election he used alleged charity but it was to buy favor and ditto here.

Based on what I read in The NY Post previously deputy mayor Patricia Harris's desk at City Hall is mostly empty and we the tax payers are being robbed both by paying a high priced salary for a job she is not doing and instead is working on Mike's charity plus like to many officials we are paying for her to be chauffeured around but she is not even doing work for the city...  It is called theft...


There are so many question about ethics violations and here is yet another question --- is Patricia Harris on the Bloomberg double dip payroll list....?  Remember the 3 administrative assistants....young women that are payed a 2nd salary out of a "shell" account created by Mike Bloomberg and the two salaries make them higher paid than our NYPD police commissioner.


Mike flies city workers on air bloomberg and there is so much more we don't know from how the 109 million dollars was spent that The NY Post did not investigate....we the people don't squat unless The NY Post or The NY Daily News gives us some scrap of news like David Seifman reporting through FOIL The NY Post requested 62 emails Mike sent to Haggerty and Mike Bloomberg refuses to turn them over.


Isn't interesting that Cy Vance and John Haggerty's lawyer never subpoenaed Mike Bloomberg demanding he turn over these emails?  Translation all parties agree to make the Haggerty, Bloomberg's Watergate that would forced him to resign during his 3rd term and made Haggerty-gate go away.


Note:  Why Rangel and why not Mike Bloomberg and Christine Quinn or Vito Lopez?  An ethics committee for Mike Bloomberg, Steve Rattner and gang is not enough....We need the Justice Dept. to investigate.

The USPS sold the air rights over St. Ann's Church from 1847 to NYU -- visit 120 East 12th (East Village) to see the damage done and oops the air sale was illegal like blockign fire hydrants and pedestrian walk ways which the USPS does chronically here in NYC and the USPS got away with it.  The USPS had to notify the State of NY as legally required.

Cuomo's victory was a win with NY ranking no. 50 of 50 States winning the award for the smallest amount of voters to come out to vote.  A friend voted for Kristin Davis because he loves "sex workers" but he used Cathie Black's word "hooker" Mike Bloomberg's pick of school chancellor...by the way can we have Mike Bloomberg drug tested?

The battles between the "haves" and "the have-nots" continue to rage and a protest, a 20 minute one is coming to The Mercer Hotel to send a message to Michael Rawson who had water thrown out both sides of the hotel on to Vendors hitting a Viet Nam Vet and an Artist Vendor.  Enough is enough.  Calling all Vets including disabled Vets because some of the Vets are handicapped....and artist are showing up too.

Steve Rattner's new book has a chapter praising the work of the now defeated Republican candidate for New York State Comptroller, Harry Wilson. If he had not lost the election and assumed this role, Mr. Wilson would have served as the sole trustee of the NYS Pension Fund, the exact resource that Rattner is accused of misusing by AG Cuomo and the SEC. Steve Rattner enthusiasm shopping Wilson to his Wall Street and political contacts thru the campaign is well known. The New York Times was bold in its support for Wilson, on both the editorial pages and what was supposed to be their journalistic coverage (how many times in one article is it appropriate to mention a Harvard pedigree?). It should also be noted that not only does Rattner manage the funds of Mayor Bloomberg (also a supporter of Wilson's, go figure!) but the Times' own Arthur Sulzberger is a close personal friend and receives financial advising from Rattner. If that is not considered a journalistic breach- I don't know what is. I hope AG Cuomo holds Mr. Rattner accountable for the entitlement and misdeeds he participated in, and the Times comes clean on their role in covering this story

Price of Freedom is Evident! The lobby of the Veterans Hospital NYC, Suzannah goes to ask Veterans to shop up at our protest against Michael Rawson throwing water on a Viet Nam Vet

I walked up from the East Village with my Veteran friend and meet with social services.  They told me it was perfectly legal to stand out on the side walk and hand out flyers which I did.

It was very, very moving and I told one Viet Nam Vet that my Dad served in World War 2.  He asked me very concerned -- Is your Dad still alive?  I said YES!

The Vets were very upset to hear water had been thrown out of both sides of the Mercer Hotel and hit a Viet Nam Vet on the Mercer Street side who's name is Marty.  The water hit Marty and his table.  We believe that Rawson has done some shady manoeuvring using DOT to move the loading and unloading sign which was replaced with a much smaller sign and again a Vet reported seeing Mercer Hotel staff carrying the original sign in to the hotel which is against the law but the goal in moving the sign two or three south is to be right on top of Marty and our theory is this is a further attack on Marty, the Viet Nam Vet.

Why would they move the sign when the hotel breaks the laws chronically using the area as private parking with valet service and I would not care except that Rawson acts like Capt. Queeg in The Caine Mutiny coming out with his ruler except I do not believe Rawson ever served the country.   Rawson also acts like Jack Nicholson in the Shining making taunting comments to the Vets about calling the NYPD.

I told the NYPD to tell Rawson when he calls to stop calling until he stops breaking the law like throwing water out both sides of the hotel windows on to vendors to chronic parking violations outside the hotel.

I wanted a date after Veterans Day but before Thanksgiving and the protest is 20 minutes only which is kind of heart breaking because one handicapped Viet Nam Vet wants to attend our 20 minute protest and he is commuting by bus from the Bronx.

The Vets were visibly upset to hear Marty, the Viet Nam Vet had water thrown on him and his table.  They were also touched that I even cared!  I asked them to spread the word.

Reminder 2 Viet Nam Vets saved lives by contacting the NYPD and alerting them to the bomb filled car in Times Square.

We have been mega dormed to death mostly by New York University but also by New York Law School, The New School for Social Research, and Cooper Union. Yet another NYU mega dorm and the tallest building ever in the East Village will be built and Saint Ann's Church from 1847 fell to NYU's greed and need to build yet another NYU mega dorm. Amanda Burden supports this dorm being the tallest building yet in the East Village. So far Amanda Burden has ignored our community pleas for zoning protection.

City Planning's incentives to developers in the name of affordable housing is a Trojan horse for developers to further supersize our historic area. The mayor and City Planning seem to care only for housing for NYU students and developers with luxury condos and mirrored hotels that reflect a history that is being destroyed. A community is no longer welcome. We have asked for preservation and protection of our long term community members, and if more isn't done to protect us you will have to visit a re-creation of the East Village, Bowery, and Lower East Side in Las Vegas or in a museum.

The USPS loses aprox only 8.5 BILLION Dollars this year! You can't have employees that make the Mafia look warm and cuddly

The USPS lost only aprox. 8 billion dollars.   I try never to use the USPS ever for anything.  I often don't get my mail and I have had two dept. in NYC Gov. blame the fact I don't get mail from them on the USPS.

I don't use the USPS because I did not appreciate being threatened and lied to and about on a regular basis. The good news is I now own an IPhone so I could now just film the abuse and put on YouTube.

The USPS treats customers awfully and they abuse their Federal Status in every way possible including blocking fire hydrants, pedestrian walk ways and threatening customers just doesn't work.

A Viet Nam Vet friend of mine was told to mind his God-Damn business when he approached a postal worker who blocked a fire hydrant to go in to a bagel shop to by coffee.  I warned the Viet Nam Vet to never ever approach a postal worker again because the term "going postal" is no joke and the postal police are worthless...truly.

FYI:  A postal worker is never, ever suppose to approach a customer and how about harass them and threaten them.   How ironic there are warning about harming a postal worker -- it is a federal offense but what if a postal worker harms you a customer -- is that a federal offense?

The USPS wants to kid themselves it is the internet but the truth is they are a corrupt destructive organization and they make the Mafia look warm cuddly and honorable.

Well the USPS and the Postal Police won't do their job so they continue to lost mega-billions a year.  I do not know anyone who wants to step foot in a post office and many of us pay extra to buy stamps to avoid any contact with the USPS.

My maternal Grandfather was a postal worker in the Bronx's so I know there are good postal workers...just not enough good ones.

When is the government doing to do something to stop the USPS from the terrible abuse and corruption and massive losses they lose each year.  First take away any federal status that protects them for breaking the laws that we all must obey from traffic violations to the illegal air sale over St. Ann's at 120 East 12th Street to St. Ann's.   Make the USPS use license plates and hold them accountable.  They must not have US on their sleeve is they are openly breaking the laws and confuse threats, lies and intimidation for customer service unless that is what the US government wants to be identified with.....

President Obama said he would bring change and the USPS should have been on the 10 ten list.  I know many don't want to privatize the USPS but if done they would have to obey the laws and any abusive employee would be fired instead of being protected by a Union that should not protect them and suffers 100,000 in lay-offs because they won't do the right thing and stop protecting corrupt criminal behavior that no professional business would tolerate.

The USPS will not learn, adapt or respect the laws to they continue to lost mega-billions and have to make massive lay-offs but they refuse to make the changes they need to make.
