The rally will start at 2pmin Washington Square Park and will stop at recently closed community hospitals in the area (St. Vincent's, Stuy Poly and Cabrini). Please join us even if you don't necessarily wish to speak. The rally is itself part of a larger, day-long event Life or Debt: A Day of Free Healthcare and Education (link to Facebook event page) at Washington Square Park and the nearby Judson Memorial Church. There will be free medical services, free workshops and talks on healthcare issues, free food(!) and performances/music for you to enjoy. And there will be plenty of similarly-minded folks interested in fixing our broken healthcare system. Please see the above link or the attached flyer for more details. Please email me if you are interested in doing a speakout tomorrow, or (if you can't make it in person) sending in a written testimonial that one of us may read out loud. It will be great to hear perspectives from those who were personally impacted by the closing of St. Vincent's.Finally, a little bit about Strike Debt, the group sponsoring the event. Strike Debt is an offshoot of Occupy. Most recently, through its "Rolling Jubilee" initiative, Strike Debt bought and abolished $1.2 million in emergency room debt as part of larger efforts to provide relief and raise awareness about the human costs of privatizing healthcare.
