NY Post Viet Nam Vet Vendor that foiled the Time Square Bomber speaks out and I get a heads up because I speak up for the Vet Vendors by The Mercer Hotel who get harassed
I wasn't going to saying anything but when people outside of NY are contacting me about Veteran Vendors than I have to speak up.
For those who do not follow my blog religiously go to the search engine on this blog and type in Mercer Hotel and read all the postings....there are a high volume of postings.
The manger of the Mercer Hotel acts like Jack Nicholson in "The Shining" taunting the Vet Vendors as he calls the NYPD on them. They are licensed and have the permission of City Council to be there despite the Mercer Hotel trying to sweep them away and we have Viet Nam and Korean War Vets on Prince Street in Soho.
I am too tired to go in to it but if he doesn't cease and desist in the harassment of Vets than I will have to organize a series of rallies with as many Veterans and Vendors joining us to protest the treatment of Veteran Vendors and I hope Iraqi Veterans will join us in big numbers. If we have to have protests I will be calling for all handicapped Veterans to park their cars on both sides of the street in front of The Mercer Hotel to prevent the hotel from using the area as their private parking w/valet service but for right now no protests needed.
For now we are taking no action because the NYPD is not ticketing the Vet Vendors on behalf of The Mercer and they were because the manger was calling the NYPD like he was the commander of the precinct but the precinct never ticketed all the parking violations outside the hotel where they use the loading and unloading as private parking with valet service. I also emailed Margaret Chin and Commish Kelly on this issue as well.
I really did not want to bring it up but clearly what has be going on with the hero Viet Nam Vet Vendor that saved lives in Time Square rang a chord in people's minds today because I write so often about the Vet Vendors in Soho. Our Veteran Vendors deserve better treatment, all our Vets do and the heroism of the Viet Nam Vet Vendors that day in Time Square saved lives and of course the NYPD's fast and courageous response and the BOMB Squad which I love too did great, great work!!!!!!!
