It is amazing to me that “higher ed” is incapable of understanding the word “no”. NYU has been told over and over “no” to their community crushing development. Please visit 120 East 12th Street and see the facade of St. Ann’s Church from 1847. St. Ann’s survived everything all these years but NYU’s need and greed to build another mega dorm. NYU has mega-dormed the East Village to death. In this shocking “make-over, take-over” NYU will make the W. Village in to mid-town and will kick the Mayor La Guardia statue to the curb. I lived next to St. Ann’s for 20 years. I went to be in the E. Village and woke-up in a bad xerox of Mid-town turning in to a bad xerox of Dubai. Mike Bloomberg and Amanda the people’s Burden act like they work for NYU and do not represent the people of NYC.
p.s Re: NYU buying the air rights over St. Ann’s at 120 East 12th Street from the USPS, the sale was illegal because the USPS was suppose to notify the State of NY as legally required but the USPS did not perhaps because the State might have nixed the sale. Just like chronically blocking a fire hydrant like they did outside my home next door the USPS was confident they are above the law. Also what doesn’t get coverage is NYU and even Cooper Union who is following NYU and Columbia U. in abusive creepy real estate deals are law suits by the community.
