Hi Suzan,
Question: How can we top Ringling's announcement that it plans to retire its elephants, the National Institutes of Health's decision to end years of maternal-deprivation experiments on monkeys, the spaying and neutering of over 11,000 dogs and cats, and the rescue of numerous bears and chimpanzees from roadside hellholes?
Answer: With a little help from our friends—YOU!
2015 was a fantastic year with many victories for animals. With your help, let's make 2016 even better! Every phone call you make, video you share, and petition you sign has the potential to change a life, and last year was proof of that.
Here are some ways to kick the new year off with kindness:
After a government panel concluded that experiments on chimpanzees were "unnecessary," the National Institutes of Health (NIH) promised to retire all federally owned chimpanzees to sanctuaries. But since this announcement, few have been retired and many have died while waiting. Please ask NIH to send these chimpanzees to a sanctuary now!
Around every corner is a cruelty-free alternative. Vegan eating is taking over, y'all! Grab a friend who needs a bit of guidance and be a vegan mentor. Send your friend a free vegan starter kit and share your passion for kindness to animals with him or her. Let's make this #TheYearOfVegan.
It was over 20 years ago that an elephant named Tyke—who could no longer take the abuse that she experienced in the circus—crushed her trainer to death and escaped from a Hawaii arena. The gripping and emotionally charged feature documentary film Tyke Elephant Outlaw is now available on Netflix. Grab some vegan snacks and encourage your friends and family to watch this must-see film with you.
Check out PETA's "2015 Year in Review" video and see the victories that you helped make happen. Share it with your friends and family and get 'em on board, too, so we can accomplish even more in 2016.
✓ Help animals used for winter gloves.
Cows, geese, rabbits, sheep, reptiles, and dogs all suffer and die to become gloves. Wash your hands of cruelty and discover ways to help these animals now.
Thank you all for an action-packed year. Here's to making 2016 another one!
Stay kind,
