Suzannah: Can you believe it! Rudin is going to be honored at Gotham Hall on Wed. April 18 at 6.30PM! Can you please be there to let the world know this is not right! Please help get the word out. See description, below.Protest Against the Rudin Family and HIV/AIDS BetrayalDate : Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Time : Show up at 6:30 p.m.
Place : Gotham Hall, 1356 Broadway @36th StreetTo make hundreds of millions of dollars, the Rudin family practically closed St. Vincent's Hospital, shutting down many of the historic NYC hospital's HIV/AIDS treatment programs and clinics. In the hospital’s place, the Rudin family plan to build a billion dollar luxury condo and townhouse complex : Treatment and care being received by patients were disrupted — doctors were forced to find new hospitals with which to affiliate, doctors offices were moved, and some doctors just closed their practice. The Rudin family acted in the name of profits only — with conscious disregard for the impact on the healthcare of the hospital’s critical care patients, including those living with HIV/AIDS. As one example, St. Vincent’s offered a Youth Clinic, which made available free confidential HIV counseling, testing, and other healthcare and social services.
In the on-going fight against AIDS, why did the Rudin family think that it is O.K. or excusable to close the critical prevention and care services to men, women, and families that are living with, or affected by, HIV/AIDS in New York City ? Join us for this important protest.
Note that this protest is taking place outside GMHC's gala event. In a misguided decision or a deliberate attempt to give the Rudin family political cover, GMHC is honoring the Rudin's for supporting HIV/AIDS programs! How can that be a true statement ? The Rudin's are making hundreds of millions of dollars from the closing of St. Vincent's. Until a cure can be found, we need more (not less) prevention and treatment programs to bend the new infection curve. After St. Vincent’s closed, the Rudin’s were being investigated for their role in allegedly calling for St. Vincent’s Hospital to be run into the ground, so that the family could move forward with their billion dollar real estate deal : http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/da_eyes_st_vinny_go_for_broke_plan_fvDtudcbAWyxqqiQnhbzaI
Join us on Wednesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. to say that we still need a full-service hospital to replace St. Vincent’s and that the Rudin family deserve no honour from their decidedly uncharitable act — shutting down St. Vincent’s.
