Adrian Schoolcraft Leonard Levitt Serpico David Durk Piece Serpico Jealous of Durk?

Levitt's piece on Adrian Schoolcraft I believe beat the media to the punch -- although it appears main stream media isn't reporting this major story.  I am glad The Chief picked up this mega NYPD scandal and politely gives the Queens DA Richard Brown hell.

How ever -- when Huffington picked Leonard Levitt's breaking news on Adrian Schoolcraft and the shocking DA ruling --- the editor for this piece on huffington added a correction or challenge to a Serpico quote! See bottom of this post....

Levitt hasn't added it to his blog but Huffington has...interesting huh.  Is Levitt just a little bias in favor of Serpico because his reporting on David Durk sure seemed like it.

 Serpico got challenged by the lawyer from the Knapp Commission --see below.

Levitt's piece that should have been a tribute to David Durk an whistle blower that wanted to stay in the NYPD and effect change as usual became all about Serpico's ego to be the star -- the true hero -- Serpico a true hero who denied paternity of his child until he was finally confronted with a DNA test has a lot of to be jealous of because David Durk was a family man.  

Durk stayed married to one woman his entire life and his family got how dedicated Durk was to trying to help others.  By the way Durk married a beautiful and intelligent woman and most men don't like that combination at all let alone stay married.

I wrote Levitt and suggested that perhaps David Durk's daughter said stop harassing her father  to Schoolcraft's father because she knew how gravely ill David Durk was but did not share that?   Durk  was probably dying of cancer and that was perhaps maybe why she responded the way she did to Adrian Schoolcraft's father?

I understand the power of some of Levitt's work but I always have issues like him reporting about Jack Maple trimming his nasal hairs.  Are you kidding me?

Levitt's piece on Durk is so offensive that Serpico comes off as a man with a serious inferiority complex, possibly anti-Semitic, deeply jealous of David Durk.   David Durk was not seeking the lime light like Serpico is and was.  

Serpico helping Adrian Schoolcraft is excellent but Serpico is about limelight and  far more a Hollywood wannabe celebrity than Durk any day of the week.

 Serpico did good and was courageous exposing corruption but he is very flawed and the way he misrepresents and trashes Durk is awful.  I won't read Serpico but I read the bio on Durk and I will take Durk any day over Serpico.

If Durk wanted to be a star he could have spent his feverish energy doing so but instead David Durk fought every battle -- like me he did not chose his battles.  I wrote David Durk asking him  for help.  I scrawled a brief note on a scrap of paper from the Bronx Botanical Garden.  I did not know he was dying. http://nypdstatcreativestatfixing.blogspot.com  I wanted his help with Det. John Vergona and the First Precinct Det Squad members involved in making me being assaulted go away.   Shortly after I wrote Durk died.  I did not know he was dying of cancer.   Read this --- way better than Levitt's nasty piece thanks to a very jealous Serpico who really has issues especially about "sharing" maybe anything remember the baby he didn't want to own up to but most of all that Durk was vital and courageous and stayed to effect change not for limelight.

EMENDATION. Two weeks ago this column reported that Serpico maintained that his having been shot months before the Knapp Commission began hearings in 1971 was the result of the police department's "setting him up." Michael Armstrong, the counsel to the Knapp Commission and currently the head of the mayor's Commission to Combat Police Corruption, took exception to that sentence and wrote:: "Frank, at the time, emphatically and repeatedly denied to me that he had any belief that he had been set up to be shot by anyone, much less by the "department" as part of some sort of official revenge.  He was angry that his fellow cops didn't come to his aid fast enough, but specifically rejected the idea that they had deliberately put him in harm's way."

The city's disgraced former police commissioner is suing the celebrity criminal lawyer — whose clients include Victoria Gotti and Alex Rodriguez — for negligence and malpractice.

 

Kerik blames Tacopina — once his business partner and top bud — for Kerik's 2009 conviction on eight federal felony counts, including filing false income tax returns, lying about his apartment renovations, and misleading the White House during his 2005 Homeland Security nomination. As a result, he spent four years in the Cumberland, MD federal prison.

 

In 2006, Tacopina convinced Kerik that pleading guilty in a Bronx case to accepting $165,000 in free renovations to his Riverdale apartment from a firm that sought a city contract while Kerik was Corrections Commissioner would end his legal liability.

 

"We got everything we wanted," Tacopina wrote in a memo to Kerik on June 20, 2006, the day of Kerik's guilty plea to two misdemeanor counts. NYPD Confidential obtained a copy of the memo.

 

Instead, the feds seized on Kerik's guilty plea and began sweeping through the dark corners of his life. The feds indicted him the following year on 16 counts of conspiracy and tax fraud.

 

The feds then disqualified Tacopina from representing Kerik, claiming they might call him as a witness against Kerik, a rare move in a criminal case.

 

They also got Kerik's second attorney, Kenneth Breen, disqualified, claiming he had been party to Tacopina's negotiations in Kerik's Bronx case.

 

In his lawsuit, Kerik claims that Tacopina met secretly with federal prosecutors, and provided information about Kerik that the feds used against him in their subsequent prosecution. That is a stunning revelation. If true, it raises questions about Tacopina and about the feds.

 

Their meeting, Kerik claims, occurred as the feds were investigating an alleged fee-splitting case involving Tacopina and attorney Ron Fischetti.

 

Neither Tacopina not Fischetti, who is a well-regarded criminal attorney, was indicted.

 

Tacopina denies Kerik's allegations, and has countersued for defamation, seeking $5 million.

 

Tacopina also sued the Daily News, which reported on Kerik's allegations in December while Tacopina was representing Rodriguez, claiming the newspaper and Kerik conspired against him.

 

Tacopina told the News that he met with Kerik's prosecutors, but said the meetings were not about Kerik but about financial record the feds had subpoenaed.

 

But in a Dec. 12, 2007 affidavit seeking Breen's removal — and provided to NYPD Confidential — Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliott B. Jacobson, who prosecuted Kerik, appeared to contradict Tacopina.

 

In the affidavit, Jacobson said he and Tacopina discussed "conversations with past and present Assistant District Attorneys in the Bronx County District Attorney's office."

 

Tacopina, Jacobson stated, had told representatives of the Bronx District Attorney's office that Kerik "had paid for all of the renovations to the Riverdale apartment himself and that the total amount of the renovations he had paid for was approximately $50,000.

 

"After [Kerik] pleaded guilty in the Bronx case and during the pendency of this Office's investigation," Jacobson continued, "we questioned Mr. Tacopina concerning the statements made above.

 

"The questioning took place in the presence of Tacopina's attorney, Michael Ross, who is one of New York State's leading legal ethicists and experts on the law of privilege, including the attorney-client and work-product privileges.

 

"Tacopina confirmed he had made the above statement to the Bronx County District Attorney's Office. Tacopina also stated that the information he had conveyed had been provided by the defendant."

 

Neither Tacopina not Fischetti returned calls or emails seeking comment."

Oliver Stone Snowden Monotone Computer Scenes Harken to Wall Street

Wow first of all -- Oliver Stone picked an excellent actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Snowden but Levitt fails miserably and so does Oliver?

I am not sure but when I first heard Levitt -- I was impressed but to hear him over and over through the bits I did watch it became monotone and Levitt grew smaller and smaller in stature.

I think trying to mimic someone is pointless especially with the documentary.

I guess it would have been too wild to try a team effort getting permission to use footage from the documentary.

I was also confused by the Nicholas Cage character -- he seemed like William Binney -- and my brain is exhausted and traumatized from blowing the whistle on NYC gov corruption and one big whistle blow was on SAIC -- doesn't Binney blame NSA SAIC Trailblazer pre-the Sept 11 attack?

Oliver Stone always seems a head of the curve on the topics he picks and sets the stage for others but in this case he came after a documentary that out does Stone's Snowden.

That being said the film has a calm in sharp contrast to Oliver Stone's Nixon that seem more about Oliver Stone's own demons.   If this film is a weather report on Stone's state of mind he has found a calm late in life....just too calm -- way too monotone...


The most powerful part for me was the computer scene -- artistically creative and harkens back to Wall Street -- the first film to have a wall street trading floor loaded with computers...


Oliver changed the ending of Wall Street -- a disney type ending and FYI -- I do not want him to do a Wall Street 3 but clearly we are heading towards another Wall Street implosion.

I don't think anyone will give Snowden a pardon anytime soon -- hero or villain or supreme narcissist --- you decide but the USA has a lot of secrets -- Donald Trump wants to get rid of emails and use couriers....
 Donald Trump miss the part about whistleblowers inside the room what are you gonna do delete their brains?  Goldman Sachs  couldn't read Russian programmers brain so they had him arrested on trumped up charges because  dare to quit the firm.  I can't wait for the film to be made on Flash Boys.   Only wish it would be made by the same people same actors as the big short. 
I have a collapsed bladder from way too many fibroid tumors -- it is like being pregnant with twins.... so I can't sit through long movies at a movie theatre but I watch Snowden on my little Iphone and found myself falling a sleep as if a Mr Roger from NSA was reading me a story.  I also started skimming just exhausted.  I think the film needed tweaking editing but still there are some aspects that I think are Oscar worthy.


That being said Oliver Stone's Snowden will most likely get an Oscar nod...stay tuned.

Wasn't it Big Pussy (alias Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero) from the HBO TV series, the Sopranos, who was accused by Tony Soprano of being wired for sound to help the Feds take down Tony Soprano's crew? As summer is here, many of us have hit the Jersey shore. Smack in the middle of the shore is a Belmar NJ hangout (love Tommy L's "Bar A" and Frank's bar, DJAIS). Oddly, this is the shore town that also held Tony Soprano's boat, The Stugots. It is hard to swim in the ocean these days without thinking of all Great white shark sightings, the Portuguese Man-of-War jelly fish sightings ("Ouch"),and, to some, the imaginary leftovers of one fictional character, Big Pussy. Big Pussy, who was exposed as the snitch, was lured to take a boat ride on the Stugots (meaning, in Italian, "dick") out to the ocean and was killed by the Soprano crew - a ONE way ride. Pussy's lifeless body would be fed as "bunker" in the sea.

Like Tony Soprano, even in real life thugs usually don't take well to lawyers taping their clients or others in criminal probes. Taping lawyers is like taping priests, it is generally a no no. So that is why, it is astonishing, on this hot July summer day, to Re-read, Len Levitt's (one of NYC's most respected crime beat reporters) report his opinions on the Tacopina-Kerik feud, from last summer, that was titled, "The Joe and Bernie Show" (Continued), dated June 2, 2014. In the article, Levitt describes a situation wherein he claims another lawyer, a friend of Tacopina's. Ron Fischetti, make the incredible claim that Tacopina was wired for sound, I assume, to snitch on him. Whether that is a true story or not, NOTABLY, it has never, to my knowledge, been publicly refuted. Here are the actual words inside the article by Levitt, he says:

"......Suspecting Tacopina had helped Kerik launder money with the help of a person whose initials were "RF," the feds went through Tacopina's business records in March 2007, and discovered tens of thousands of dollars in checks made out to cash to "RF," Kerik says.

Tacopina told the feds the checks were referral fees for Fischetti, who told this reporter a couple of years ago that Tacopina had worn a wire to secretly record him...."
(Note Ron never found guilty and it was Tacopina that had to make a deal and get immunity....)
So, to date, what we know is, Tacopina has threatened a number of past clients with "defamation" lawsuits....there are several "defamation" lawsuits pending, including against the NY Daily News. A little birdie hears no one intends to get bullied. In fact, wasn't it some years ago, I recall Len Levitt being threatened with a "defamation" lawsuit....I guess he wasn't intimidated either. As Frank Sinatra sang, "The Best is Yet to Come..."

Escalated --- Lt. and than escalated --  blocked off the street, got the FDNY ---

This occurred just before mayor stole a third term and one of Bloomberg theme was low crime and economic development and tourism --- could not have Adrain running running to The New York Times with proof that crime was up --- violent crimes were downgraded if reported at all.

Larry called everyone desperate to help  including Durk - Larry said Durk gave him permission to call anyone in his family if he needed to -- when he didn't hear from Durk he -spoke to Arlene and left alone message with the daughter in NYC-- Levitt wrongly reported that Larry harassed Durk.
Under the shocking circumstances you could understand Larry calling anybody and everybody for help.

Durk ended up not being there for him --

Did IA leak any dirt they could try and find on Randy and it does not look like the found anything but his over time but look at it this way -- what they paid Randy in over-time is a bargain in law suits if Ramos had murdered the key witness or anyone -- so a under 100 grand over time   to find the hornet's nest --  a mega artery of NYPD corruption is a bargain to what we the tax payers pay out in law suits because of corrupt cops is how I look at it.

A KOCH TALE. My most instructive Ed Koch story was one I never wrote. It was a story as much about journalism as it was about Koch.

Shortly after Koch left office, the late newspaper columnist Jack Newfield called me. He said he was writing a book about New York’s political corruption under Koch and that his last chapter concerned Koch and his supposed homosexual lover, a mid-level city employee.

Newfield said he did not want to be the first publish this homosexual allegation. To do so, he said, might hurt his image as a crusading liberal. Instead he asked me to write the story for New York Newsday, where I was then employed. He said he would then include it in his book’s last chapter.

He gave me the city employee’s name and I called both him and Koch. Both gave equivocal answers about their relationship, which, I felt, justified writing the story.

Still, feeling uneasy, I approached Sydney Schanberg, the former NY Times columnist and Vietnam correspondent who had recently come to Newsday.

Schanberg and Koch had been feuding. As mayor, Koch had denounced him before the City Hall press corps. If anyone had a personal beef with Koch, it was Schanberg.

Yet Schanberg advised me not to write the story. So what if Koch’s answers had been equivocal? he said. This was not a matter involving corruption. It was about a personal relationship. Who of us, he said, always tells the truth about personal relationships?

I never wrote the story. I didn’t think much of Newfield after that. I thought a lot of Schanberg.
