Part 2 of Jaee Logan's series on father son reunion Giuseppi Logan

Bobby Paulino keeps sending me edited pieces of the documentary I suggested Jaee Logan make when we were first connected by his friend David who was following my YouTube documentary of his Dad.
I also suggested a Hollywood film like The Soloist and that Jaee could set up a charity to help musicians and artists like his Dad as was down with Nathianl Ayers, the subject of the book and film.  I suggested to Jaee that he starting writing in a journal in preparation for a book as well.  Here is my YouTube series starting with the first video of Giuseppi Logan playing on a freezing cold day to an empty park and a 20 part series still on going that brought a reunion of Father and Son.  Pete Gershon, publisher of Signal to Noise wrote a powerful piece which also honors and acknowledges my work on Giuseppi Logan called "Out from the Shadow".  I believe because of Peter's powerful writing and my YouTube discovering Giuseppi Logan which rocked the jazz world this led to Josh Rosenthal of Tompkins Square Park records to get him in the studio and make a new album mostly with original work.Giuseppi Logan Quintet (Dig)  The new CD, Giuseppi Logan's first since the 1960's is a successful and was received with very strong powerful reviews.  There were some in the music world that thought Josh Rosenthal was wasting his time and that GL was shot but Rosenthal proved them wrong.


You should know that Giuseppi was married before he met Jaee's Mom and had many children.  There were problems and maybe it was undiagnosed mental illness.  I do not know.  He said she had him arrested and put in mental institutions.  Jaee has a different take on this saying she did not support his music and wanted him to have a 9-5 job which was a killer for him.  Music was and is his life line.


He was divorced and re-married a woman who understood his love for music and came to New York City were he could pursue fame and fortune.  As you here him say.  He found fame but not fortune.  It is very sad and upsetting but I don't think he got much for those two successful records.  As we filmed a man stopped which was caught on camera and said Giuseppi Logan, you records got me through college.  He shook Giuseppi's hand.


Giuseppi Logan studied at The New England Conservatory and when GL self destructed Jaee's Mom took Jaee to California.  Jaee was an honor student and he went to college studying music as well.


You will hear Father and Son discuss Giuseppi Logan playing with all the famous musicians including John Coltrane and Jaee as a little boy played with their kids.  Giuseppi played with Coltrane, Mingus, Sun Ra and more Jazz greats as he contributed his own unique compositions to what is called the free jazz movement.

Guiseppi.Milford Graves,the legendary drummer,is alive and well at age 68.I have

his interview in Jazz Inside,Volume 8,Number 4,Winter 2010.He mentions

Guiseppi Logan twice in his very lenghty interview.Guiseppi told me in New York

city the fact that Guiseppi is not his born,legal name.Somebody in the jazz

world told Guiseppi in the 1960"s that he should change his first name.

Matt Lavelle join forces with Giuseppi Logan when Logan came in to buy a reed.  Matt kept getting Giuseppi Logan gigs and formed a ban.  This was a life saver for Giuseppi because music is is life force and it also lead to him making money.  Josh Rosenthal even gave Lavelle producer credit on the new CD, The Giuseppi Logan Quintet which includes Francios Grillot, Warren Smith and David Burrell

In my series Giuseppi thanks the people of New York.  He tells me he found out from his friend using the computer that people thought he was dead.  He got a little money and took a bus to NYC where people gave him help.  He found shelter although I had heard reports at times he was homeless and people gave him clothing and instruments.  An amazing Salvation Army Angel got him a small room close to Tompkins which is his life line.  He told me people here in NY gave him instruments.  The Jazz Foundation has also been helping him and gave him an instruments, a bass clarinet and flute but the flute is not playing right.


I call Giuseppi Logan this morning.  I started very early and he picks up at 7am.  Giuseppi I have great news.  I just got confirmation you son is coming back this month.  I believe for your birthday on May 22.  Giuseppi hadn't heard from Jaee and he was worried he may not return.  He is returning Giuseppi. I asked GL who else he played with and here are a few more names.
Giuseppi  played with so many people and here are so morewith Roland Kirk ,  Eddie Gomez, Eric Dolphy  and even  Dizzy Gillespie!


I had to leave to go to a meeting but before I did I suggested Jaee and Giuseppi walk over to where Charlie Parker lives.  I couldn't go with them. I wish I could have.  Enjoy the 2nd part in a series Jaee Logan is putting together and a sad reminder Jaee lost his only son to gun violence and he has an organization set up with the goal to stop the violence.

My poem in the hexagon by the Fountain in Tompkins Square Park with the words HOPE above them--are from a poem that begins my story The Going (a 9-11 story dedicated to NYPD Detectives - -it is a ghost story) -- the poem is right by where I found Giuseppi Logan a couple a years ago on a freezing cold morning.  note the word trees -- the one word you don't see is LOVE but that is what it is all about.
Jaee talks about the family tree and too many are broken family trees here in America so here is one broken family tree beginning to mend.

Reunited after 40 years.

I am so honored that my YouTube series was the reason.   Special thanks to Tim Madison for urging me to keep filming.  I was too tired than and even more so now.  Pete Gershon, publisher of Signal to Noise wrote this amazing piece "Out from the Shadow" and I believe his powerful writing lead to Giuseppi getting the opportunity to record again.  Josh Rosenthal did the masterful work in the studio to make the new CD happen.  I am moved that Pete recognized my hard work and contribution in his piece because way to often I have been either robbed or erased.

Treasure is a new song Jaee co-wrote and Duane Patton is the lead singer.  The message of the song is  to say really treasure the people you love.


Jaee has play, written and produced his own and other people's music.  He has worked with Randy Jackon, MC Hammer. Bobby Brown and there are so many other people and stories to tell you about his work but I am way too tired right now.  The unimaginable grief of losing his son drove him to despair and than with the urging of his friend Cheri to community action and good deeds.  He has created S.AV.O.Y. Stop all Violence on Youth and I have the links and info to all of this and his website on the posting below.


I will post the previous piece which tells you about Jaee losing his son to random gun violence.  It was brutual. He was shot several times in the back including the head.

It is why he put this song out....treasure....treasure the time you have with loved ones.

Giuseppi Logan is written up in a piece by John Leland and my role is acknowledged. Pete Gershon, publisher of Signal to Noise wrote the first piece, the most powerful and Pete acknowledge my stirring YouTube that can 45 years after a British film maker's in Tompkins. John Leland added a hint of the YouTube miracle of uniting Giuseppi from the little boy, Jaee his only son who would lose his Dad not long after the documentary footage was shot.

 My YouTube documentary series would reunite the fractured father and son relationship amost a half of a century later. There is more to say but too tired from frontline activism epic on going battles to add more except I was not erased as often happens in this world including a man who with the Signal to Noise mag in his hand and instructions I get GL to his CD opening -- as if I was his serf tried to erase the very article in his hand he used to sell the CD decided my youtube that shook the jazz was not -- well it is a man's world - nice I got acknowledged and made it in to The New York Times afters years of being black listed. The NYT published 9 of my letters but after becoming a critical of Bloomberg and his Tsunami of Community Crushing Development I was banned. Thanks to famed Civil Rights Lawyer Norman Siegel, Queens Crap, Louis Flores, Raul Barcolena, BloombergWatch and every person who contacted Google when my entire YouTube channel was removed before the mayoral election to close to call. Because of everyone that fought for me I got my YouTube Channel back and if I didn't Giuseppi Logan would never have been reunited with his youngest son and only child from his 2nd child.

The photo shoot I could not tell you about the other day where I fell running up the subway stairs was The NY Times. 


  The photo is very moving and at 49 and 3/4 I am grateful for the beauty of that magical photo. Look at Giuseppi Logan's face -- his instruments and playing them is his life force. Like me -- art is life or death. Very touching -- thank you for the YouTube communication the story was published -- after all this was a YouTube Miracle -- more than one and Jaee Logan and his relatives would agree. Note: I was violated in Tompkins -- it was not physically but a cyber assault - misogynist racist and anti-Semitic and for in part for defending &a homeless woman who is Black and was being exploited cruelly - and for romantically rejecting the abusive photographer photographing the 56 year old woman topless when she was drunk and out of it.. ugly Tompkins E. Village story --nbsp;so this is healing salve - the photo is significant and the timing Passover -- freedom from slavery -- freedom from what enslaves us. Happy Easter and Passover. What a surprise.

I wanted to thank you for the work you've done for Giuseppi Logan. I saw a few of your YouTube videos, I'll eventually watch all of them. I used to live in Norfolk from 1984 - 1990. Everyone there him as Joe. I knew Joe because a very good friend of mine, Kenny Butler, used to let Joe stay at his place, that went on for years. My friend's on Facebook from the Norfolk years only just learned about Joe being Giuseppi Logan, what a trip! We did not know that he had a prior recording history. Everyone that knew Joe liked him, though it was hard to have a conversation with him, he was gregarious person to be around. I imagine my friend Kenny though had many long conversations with him because of the time they spent together. It probably helped that Kenny had his masters in psychology. I even gave Joe my twin brothers old trumpet, I think Joe had that for some time. Kenny really liked Joe, I remember Kenny telling me that he thought Joe was an old soul that
had a lot to tell and teach. Joe mostly played trumpet during the time that I knew him. I also saw the project that Ed did in getting the CD and record made, I'll have to get one.

GL had fallen and broken his hip.  When I visited him in at Beth Israel I had to make an Olympic effort going back and forth from the phone store to try and get his phone up and working... http://brechtforum.org/  Giuseppi Logan will be playing tonight at Brecht Forum.  For those who don't know I discovered him playing on a freezing cold winter day 2 years ago to an empty park. I posted a moving rendition of Begin the Beguine and before I knew jazz fans and critics were contacting me from all over the world celebrating he was in fact alive.  He was looking for a home, a place to compose music and play music.

I ran home and posted the amazing video footage and immediately found a British film maker's video footage of Giuseppi with a little boy Jaee holding hands in Tompkins -- same park almost 45 years before me!

Peter Gershon, publisher of Signal to Noise, wrote a stirring piece about Giuseppi Logan and acknowledged my work along with the British film maker; a powerful piece worth checking out.

Since my first YouTube and now there are over 20 tube in my YouTube documentary he has now cut a new CD, the first since his 2 well received ones by ESP in the 1960's.   An angel posing as a human being who works for Salvation Army found him a small space in one the Salvation Army's houses that helps people struggling like Giuseppi which is beyond awesome and his little sliver of a living place filled with instruments donated to him by the Jazz Foundation and given to him by kind people fill his little room.

He is playing at the Stone  August 15.   I am hoping his son will be back to continue work on his documentary and that down the road a major motion picture will be made to tell Giuseppi Logan's story as well as honoring the tragic loss of GL's grandson, same name as his son Jaee's memory.  Jaee was murdered by a cowardly act of gun violence, several shots to the back of his head at a barbecue  He was an honor student and a football star and like his grandfather, and Dad Jaee he had the musical gift.\

Note: The film would honor jazz but also raise awareness and hopefully raise money for a foundation to help stop gun violence.  Who knows maybe there will be a series of films....

The film like my YouTube documentary would underscore even in the latest chapters of your life you can find some kind of redemption.

A friend of his youngest child Jaee and only child from Guiseppi's 2nd marriage told Jaee there is this woman on YouTube filming your Dad!  Jaee did not know his father was still alive and after losing his son he wanted to be reunited with his Dad.

I helped make that happened and captured them reunited for the first time in over 40 years so the little boy in the YouTube I found from so long ago in Tompkins is reunited once again with his Dad thanks to a YouTube miracle that I am honored to be part of!

So sweet, Giuseppi Logan called to check on me and see how I am feeling.  I am still coughing and my throat hurts.  GL wishes it was sunny so he can go out and play music. It also helps because he can earn money.  Very sweet and thoughtful....I told him about the newest commentor calling him a jazz legend.

All is not well in YouTubeland although YouTube has just celebrated it’s 5 anniversary.

Now on to the mega-bucks YouTube wonders that do happen in YouTubeland.  Lady Gaga has signed young YouTube sensation Greyson Chance to her label, Interscope Record and his manager is now Guy Oseary, Madonna’s manager.

This is different than the Susan Boyle syndrome where a tv program and YouTube combined created a big income earning for Boyle and she doesn’t seem able to cope with fame.

I also bought a single of Boyle’s from ITunes and I ended up deleting it because it fell flat.

This young man is articulate and winning as highlighted in his Ellen interview.  Lady Gaga calls in and gives him advice.

This maybe the first a mega hit YouTube star  born in YouTubeland with no help from American Idol, Simon Cowell....a pure YouTube hit.

There is a dark side to YouTubeland and I have more to tell you on the dark, dark side but tune in later, may be much later!

This amazingly talented young man  has been writing me on YouTube and I thought he was about 10 years younger than me not a 12 year old because the YouTube account had age 38 but today he told me his real age and sent me a link to see him play and he is really talented.

I do not know a lot about music but I do know talent.

I forwarded this YouTube to Jaee Logan and his partner Dan Orth.

I told the young man to introduce himself to Giuseppi and tell Giuseppi Suzannah watched him play on a YouTube video she thinks he is terrific!!!!!!

Giuseppi Logan plays the piano on his new CD and his son Jaee is a very gifted piano player as well.

I visited GL yesterday and I thought I had solved the mystery of why his phone did not work but a new problem emerged and that is the cel phone would not ring and I went to the settings and could not resolve the problem. Again I got a T-Mobile Angel because he is 75 and he really needs this phone to work. I will escort GL to the party to celebrate his new CD "The Giuseppi Logan Quintet".

Folks: I am so over exhausted and sick of being very sick. Giuseppi and many others have been either calling me and emailing me to see how I am feeling. Today I did way too much and I am exhausted. I still have bad throat burn and a little cough but much better.

I am so very tired I forget to say Lt. Giuseppie Petrosino was the first NYPD officer to die abroad in the line of duty so if you read through the text portion I include a link that tells you how Lt. Petrosino's story is an inspirational story.

Sunday morning in Tompkins Square Park where I first filmed GIuseppi Logan and ran home posted the YouTube and than find the above YouTube with GL and his little son!

Giuseppi learns music by listening and so he had me play some Ella singing Cole Porter I happen to have on my IPhone and than he played the music by ear with his unique interpretations. A woman walking by holding her tennis racquet was really taken by the music and came over and asked to buy a CD of GL's. I ran and got change for her and GL was so pleased by her beautiful words and as always he needs to earn money so it was a good morning for him. GL was pleased with the trip to Phili which Matt Lavelle made happen a long with all the bookings Matt has gotten that help GL to keep on keeping on with dedicated musicians.

I called Jay even though he is far away in California and he called us back. It was so exciting because they will be reunited after all these years. I even put Gwenn on the phone to express her feelings about why she was drawn to GL. Jay and GL talked about music because that is a language that is truly theirs, in their DNA, their musical gifts and when they instantly connect I enjoy the connection and know I can't go their. I don't understand music at all except I love the passion and intensity of music.

It was a joyous and magical time -- the best and most beautiful of NYC magic for me.

I am a mini-patron so I gave him some some money and last time I saw him he gave me his new CD which as at 5 excellent reviews....Just google his new album or go to my YouTube of the new CD release celebration and click on the text portion. I was exhausted that night and I still am.

New York NY....today was one of those crazy days when I just felt how deeply I love this city...just wish I had a quiet little country home some where else to escape to....

Just felt like NYC is just like some wild crazy lover and what is good is so mind body and spirit out of this world and what is bad is just way too bad....

GL told me "You look fine!" I have to watch out he is very fertile! He not only composes music all the time at the ripe old age of 75 but he has lots of children. They are all from his first marriage I believe and I can't wait to meet his youngest child who is about my age and has his Dad's musical gifts and is pictured on the YouTube I found of Giuseppi from the 1960's playing in the park behind were GL is sitting.

When I posted the YouTube that rocked jazz lover's worlds because so many had loved Giuseppi Logan (he adds and e when not on the record album covers and his real name is Joseph....Giuseppie is Italian for Joseph as I know because I love Lt. Petrosino, a true NYPD hero and favorite of mine!)

Anyway super tired and can't wait to meet his son!!!!!!!!
