NYPL Need Your Help

Dear Friend,

Time is running out for the City to make a decision on next year's budget. They'll soon decide whether our libraries will receive enough funding to meet the increasing demand for books, programs, and classes — or whether New Yorkers should make do with a budget stretched too thin.

More books. More computers.
More classes. More hours.

Help send 100,000 letters to City Hall

Help send 100,000 letters to City Hall asking for more funding for our libraries!

Millions of people depend on the Library — for access to information and books, for free classes to improve their English or computer skills, for job search resources, and for help in furthering their education.

It's crucial that we act now — because working families across New York City rely on us. We can't let them down.

Speak out right now by asking City leaders for an increased library budget. Help us send 100,000 letters to City Hall today.

The numbers are astounding. We have more people attending educational programs than ever. We're now circulating 30% more books and other items than we were six years ago. Yet our budget has not increased to meet the growing needs of New Yorkers — in fact, it has been cut dramatically.

We're asking you to advocate for libraries because we believe that New Yorkers deserve more.

  • More books. When people want to read, we want to make it happen. And that means more books to keep up with demand.
  • More computers. Do you take your ability to find information instantly for granted? Lots of our patrons can't, and we want enough computers to put the Internet at their fingertips.
  • More classes. Learning can come with a big price tag — but not at the library, where we want to offer even more free educational opportunities to immigrants, job seekers, students, and anyone else who wants to learn.
  • More hours. If you work or study, it can be a challenge to get to the library before closing time. Isn't it time we had enough funding to keep the library operating on yourschedule?

Tell City Hall that New Yorkers deserve more in their libraries.Hurry, budget decisions are happening right now!

Thank you for speaking out today. Our budget is spread thin over the 8.3 million New Yorkers who live here — with your help, I hope we can change that.

Sincerely,

Anne L. Coriston
Vice President, Branch Libraries
