It’s Thursday again and this week we’re asking to make your Thursday Call for Libraries to thank our Public Advocate, Letitia James, for her commitment to our libraries. Letitia James has worked to save and maintain the integrity of all the public institutions that are essential to a city that works for all of us, and that includes our public libraries. She has stood up for our libraries as a New York City Council Member, not only in her acceptance speeches for both stages of the public advocate election and in her inauguration speech, but also as Public Advocate she has been consistently present at the City Council meetings and hearings to stand up for libraries and other public institutions threatened by privatization and real estate greed.

You can use the script below, adapt it as you see fit or simply use your own words to thank Tish James and let her know that we look forward to her continuing efforts on behalf of all our public institutions, and especially our public libraries.
“Hello, my name is ________________, I live at ______________, and my zip code is ________. I am calling to thank Public Advocate Letitia James for her commitment to preserving and strengthening all our public institutions, and especially for her strong stand against the gutting, shrinking and sale of our public libraries. I thank her for speaking out for our libraries in her speeches when elected and at her inauguration as public advocate, and also for being present at City Council meetings and hearings to speak up for our libraries and for all public institutions that are under threat of privatization, sale and shrinkage. Our libraries are foremost among these vital institutions that work to create a level playing field and make New York a city that works for everyone. They are an irreplaceable resource for youth, immigrants, seniors, New Yorkers of all incomes and walks of life who want a safe and welcoming place to learn, improve their lives and open their minds. New Yorkers are reassured to know that at a time when our public libraries are under threat, we have a Public Advocate who will fight for them, and thus for a brighter future for all New Yorkers.”

As always, our weekly Thursday Thanksgiving thoughts will include all of you, who are helping to make this a better world.
