A married NYPD precinct commander’s tires were slashed and his wife beaten to a pulp over the weekend — and cops are now probing whether a sordid love triangle is behind the attacks, law-enforcement sources said last night.
Deputy Inspector John D’Adamo, commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct in The Bronx, went out to his department car parked in his driveway outside his Clarkstown home in Rockland County on Friday night and found all four tires slashed, sources said.
Then Monday around 2:30 p.m., his wife was approached by two masked men outside the couple’s home — and was punched, kicked and pushed to the ground. She’s still in the hospital recovering, sources said.
When Clarkstown cops went to talk to D’Adamo about who might be behind the attacks, the NYPD higher-up confessed that he’s been carrying on a torrid affair with a female cop — who’s also currently in a relationship, sources said.
Police are now investigating a possible link between the tangled love triangle and the attacks, the sources said.
Fueling that theory was another mysterious incident involving D’Adamo’s wife earlier Friday — when someone came up to her and hissed someone such as, "He took mine, I’ll take his."
D’Adamo’s illicit cop girlfriend doesn’t directly work for him now, although it’s whether she may have in the past.
Her other lover did not fit the description of either man who attacked D’Adamo’s wife, sources said.
Clarkstown Police Chief Peter Noonan tonight told The Post that at first, his cops thought that the tires on D’Adamo’s patrol car might "have been [slashed] by disgruntled employees or kids.
"But kids don’t decide to target one car, and it would be very uncommon to flatten all four tires," he said.
Members of the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau are meeting with the town’s investigators to go over the case, sources said.
IAB already knows D’Adamo well.
He was accused last year of fixing tickets for family and friends.
Sources said NYPD probers do not believe that scandal is related to the weekend attacks.
D'Adamo was unable to be reached for comment last night.
