Just before Sept. 11 I had my 2nd knee surgery. After the attack I waited a few days and went down to the NYHRC my health club downtown by Battery Park and I massaged as many military and NYPD as possible in the short clips of time I could.
The table was in the lobby of the club so there could be no inappropriate behavior.
I had hundreds of cops see me. They had long shifts standing on their feet and many were in uniform.
Many I said you have to get back to work so sit down take off your shoes and socks and I will massage your feet back you have a long day a head of you.
I massaged plain clothes cops and even deep compressions on cops wearing bullet proof vests. Again my goal was to do work as quickly as possible and get the police offices back out on the street but give them something positive since so many of us wondered if there would be another attack downtown at any moment.
Some people would not even venture downtown.
I listened to one beautiful woman cop tell me she had survivors guilt -- friends how died downtown. I encouraged her to live her life and find the joy and love with her husband also a cop because that is what friends in Heaven would want.
I had letters published on behalf of the NYPD and FDNY after 9-11 including "Betrayal at Ground Zero" in The Wall Street Journal and I asked for a raise for them in The NY Times. When City Council approved them giving themselves a raise and lowering the NYPD's salary I spoke up and said No! Even the NYPD's critics agreed big mistake lowering the starting salary.
I don't ask for special favors but this was the opposite where my rights were violated by the NYPD as well as the woman who assaulted me. I was discriminated against I believe for a series of reason by Det. John Vergona and he did not work alone as well as his Sgt. Chen who told me a month later when I called after toying with me that in fact I could report a crime but lady come down and report it. When I came to report the false complaint filed by the woman who assaulted me as I told Chen I would I was blown off and told I could not report it and Chen refused to come down and talk to me.
I was a patient in medical offices and did nothing to provoke that kind of irrational rage you can see in the video. I turned on the camera when she violently give me the finger and smiled after menacing around the office as I tried to find my MD to ask her for help and alert her to what was going on.
Det Vergona told me he would interview everybody. Det Vergona never went to the medical office and talked to no one. After two weeks he finally told me he just learned she filed a cross complaint and if I didn't drop the charges he was arresting me, he said I will arrest both of you but he never mentioned arresting her again and I do not believe he ever had her contacted to alert her to turn herself in.
I refused to drop the charges. That was Tuesday Oct. 16. I said the Judge will take one look at the video and toss it out and I will sue you for false arrest. I called him back 10 minutes later and told him I actually had a dentist appt could I come at 3:00 to be falsely arrested? I guess that was inconvenient like when he refused to meet me when he could not understand that Apple MacBook Pro Photo Booth flips the image around -- he couldn't grasp that -- he said I don't care if you have two black eyes.
Gee thanks. I had Apple exec email the explaination but I said let me come today and show you my black eye. I had defensive wounds on my left forearm and he refused -- that was the first day he called me.
I always was clear with activists I did not feel the way they do about the NYPD but if they NYPD did anything wrong I wrote about it I am betting Vergona saw my posts including my repeatedly asking when are the NYPD rape cops going to jail?
He wanted me to wait until Saturday the 20th to be arrested. He decided I would have to wait 4 days and come in after 4pm when he comes in to be arrested. Why?
I asked arrest the Jew on the Sabbath. Are you anti-Semitic? You would hope a NYC gov worker would say "No"but he was silent. He thought arresting me on Saturday was somehow funny.
He also had medical reports from my Doctors stating injuries including the bad shape my neck was in and he knew I had fibroid tumors pressing on my bladder which is a problem -- I am in need of a bathroom a lot and apparently he want to punish me for not dropping charges. He wanted me to spend a weekend in jail at the First Precinct and suffer and be humiliated because I did not do his bidding but no mention was ever made again of arresting the violent woman who threatened me with bodily harm.
I was a patient and no patient deserves the violent threatening treatment I received courtesy of Dr. Fagelman's receptionist office manager.
But what the Det Squad at the first precinct did was unacceptable and until I get an apology I can never feel the way I do about the NYPD again.
The NYPD is desperate for good publicity because two very disturbing trials are beginning in the Bronx ==
one an officer shoot a teen to death in his home and the teenage boy had no gun.
two the ticket fixing scandal drug selling cop who with his wife conspired to hire a hit man to kill the key witness in the trial.
I was a victim of NYPD abuse of power and corruption. Once you are it is hard to ever feel like I gee whiz the NYPD are wonderful.
We know NYPD PBA fixing goes on else where not just the Bronx -- only the Bronx DA brave enough to go after it.
Sadly new reporters are too scared to report NYPD corruption and some rely on the NYPD for favors -- tips -- info as well?
