Suzannah B. Troy Lights Candles for Sabbath and For Little Leiby
I am not a religious Jew. My first letter published in The New York Times stated right away as a Jew and an artist I prefer my art in the loving embrace of Yad Vashem.
I was given these little candles by religious Jews hoping to reel me back in from the wilderness.
I light Shabbos candles tonight for the first time in a long time....I light them saying the prayer as I remember and the first line of the most important prayer a Jewish person can say and I said three times.
I said my own prayer in english for the little boy Leiby, his name “leib” think of LOVE. His name actually translates from Yiddish in to Lion I think.... http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Leib.html
I think many NYers and people who follow this story are collectively heart broken.
I am beyond heartbroken. It was reported some NYPD officers cried as well. The parents still don’t know which is for the best.
Today I had to deal with anti-semtism which is racism and how ironic the attack was against mayor Mike Bloomberg as if his failings as a mayor were defined by being Jewish.
If you look you see my unconventional Menorah and over the center little building is a large Star of David. You know the little buildings remind me of the Holocaust and the majority that did nothing and stole our homes, robbed us and supported the torture and mass murder of us. But there were these amazing souls that fought for us and even died for us. Amazing....
I am so angry at what Mike has done and not done but compared to what I had to deal with today he comes off almost decent.
Anyway this little boy Leiby’s death is too much to bare....
so I light this candles today on my birthday....
I already had chocolate cake and my birthday....1 candle instead of 49.
The photo doesn’t show my dark circles and gray hair.
I think of all the people I LOVE Leib Love and I think of all the people Jewish and non-Jewish that have been so kind to me.
I think how much I love NYC!!!!!!!!
My heart goes out to everyone that loved Leiby, that saw him and will see him no more. His Mom described how he played baseball and when he noted the other team was losing he asked to go play for the losing team.
What kind of soul did Leiby have? Clearly the best and most beautiful soul.
My heart goes out to all his loved ones....to the NYPD officers that cried and ones that wanted to put couldn’t allow themselves.
I love this City so much. I would love to make sure we get the biggest settlement in history for the biggest white collar crime in NYC gov. history for CityTime and also for ECTP the 911 Tech System and than I want to retire some where very peaceful and quiet where the loudest sounds you hear are nature.
Thanks for such a special birthday to those that participited sent me birthday wishes.
I love you!!!!!!!
Thanks you so much.....You are like sparkling stars....(this is a general statement...anyone reading this thinking it is a special message to you it is not.)
Best,
Suzannah

My letter is towards the bottom. I was the only woman and Bruno who was murdered by SS would have been pleased...our birthday are almost the same day....we had similar talents and dealt with racism/anti-semitism and other forms of hate called the same thing. How ironic.... The letter was ironic for so many reasons....a very rich man stole my art (he wanted to steal more) and I was battling to get my art back.....amazing this letter being published for so many reasons and than I got on a plane and flew to Israel...to Jerusalem.
My favorite Psalm....though I walk through the Valley of Death I fear no evil.
