REMINDER:
Rally Against NYU's 400 ft Tall Tower Plan Sunday at 2pm
Hearing and Vote Monday starting at 6:30pm
Dear friend,

THIS IS A REMINDER TO PLEASE JOIN GVSHP AND THE COMMUNITY ACTION ALLIANCE ON NYU 2031 FOR A RALLY AND PRESS CONFERENCE THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7th at 2 pm on Bleecker Street east of LaGuardia Place to show the broad opposition to NYU’s plan to build a 400 ft. tall hotel/residence on that site in the Silver Towers complex (Please rememberDaylight saving time begins Sunday morning, so set your clock BACK Saturday night).

Bring friends, neighbors, and signs! We need to send a powerful message to NYU and city officials who will vote on their plan that neither this proposal nor NYU’s threatened alternativeof building on the neighboring supermarket site is acceptable, and that other better alternatives should be considered. See letter from GVSHP and other community groups to city officials about the proposal HEREThe hotel/residence tower would be the tallest ever constructed in Greenwich Village, 100 feet taller than the existing landmarked Silver Towers, and would require extraordinary landmarks approvals, the transfer of public lands to NYU, zoning changes to eliminate open space protections and prohibitions on commercial uses in a residential zone, and the lifting of urban renewal deed restrictions preventing new construction before 2021. View NYU’s plans HERE, and GVSHP’s animation showing what the new tower would look like in context HERE.

Please remember to also join us at the Community Board 2 public hearing on NYU’s landmarks application for the 400 ft. tall tower on Monday, November 8th at 6:30 pm at Grace Church School, 94 Fourth Avenue (11th/10th Street). This will be the first official public hearing and vote on NYU’s plan, and it’s critical that we have a large and vocal turnout to encourage the Community Board to reject the application. You can sign up to speak and testify at this hearing, or just come to show support.

HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! The flyer for Sunday’s rally and press conference and Monday’s public hearing can be found
HERE.

I hope to see you on Sunday and Monday for these critical events.
Sincerely,

Andrew Berman
Executive Director
