It is not one oligarchy but a lot of oligarchies....we have more mega bucks than ever and they "buy their political seat so to speak"....look at Jon Corizine, Goldman Sachs mega bucks best friends with John Sexton. Too bad Jon Corizine can't convince John Sexton to move NYU campus across the river to New Jersey!
Here in NYC, Mike Bloomberg as the no. 1 oligarch but at least I have walked right up to him and spoke my mind. Besides he has Amanda Burden as City Planner and she is the most hated mega bucks oligarch in NYC political office right now city wide so Mike can rest easy. In the East Village we have a lot of min-mike bloomberg wannabes which is truly frightening.
At least the growing sea of oligarchs, their wannabees and their sycophants can find solace in the A list circle --mega rich party circuit always alive and thriving in NYC.
I wrote a piece and submitted it way back when to the op ed secction of the NYTimes about the entire mega wealth big bucks and their need to be in political office. (rejected!) Some of these people actually made their own money rather than marry it, divorce it or marry someone who married it but worse is we want other countries to be democracies and we also seem to looking like communist countries -- well no -- they provide health care for everyone...just joking but unless you are rich get ready to stand in line.
At least I can speak up because I am in America,..it is a democracy right. Well, at least they can't ship me off to a gulag or send me to prison. Well maybe they can push you out and make life difficult but it is still a democracy!
The sea of mega wealth and I am include the no. 1 real estate magnate NYU and Columbia no. 3 that pretend they are about education using the term "not for profit" as a shelter as they greedily when literally moving out as much of New York communities as possible and buying up -- taking over as much of NY real estate (and NYU elsewhere globally) show you a new kind of mega wealth, real estate grabs and they operate as oligarchs as much as wealthy individuals and they are all good friends! Hey at least Mike Bloomberg gave us free bloomberg am radios when he ran the first time!
